I got rid of my TC electronic pedals because the selector switches were giving up the ghost, sealed pots getting scratchy, after only 6 years of mostly home use, and no replacements parts seem findable, so these two are the replacements.
The MXR M300 Reverb has perhaps the most underrated spring reverb in a pedal out there. It goes from amp-like to outboard very nicely, sounds incredibly realistic, has a gentle but authentic sounding drip at high mix and tone levels. A decent spring sound was the major weak point of the TC reverb pedals so I am especially pleased with this! The plate setting is excellent, great range of decay times and tone. The room setting goes from cardboard box to bright living room and will be very useful for recording. I kinda don't care about the other stuff, which are called epic, mod, pad, but they're fun to play with. No hall setting which may be a deal breaker for some. I love the slightly smaller size and look but don't like the feel of the foot switch and the knobs feel slightly gritty. Overall, I'm a happy boy.
Alexander Pedals history Lesson is a full featured delay pedal with tap tempo, subdivisions, and 4 presets. Six delay modes: tape, BBD, digital, LoFi, 4HD multi head, and a 12 bit filter. The tape is very nice, not quite as upper-mid biased as an Echoplex but in the ball park. Can be run darker too. Modulation is usual - recreates the sound of crinkled tape, with glitches, warble, and temporary treble loss. Interesting choice! BBD mode is kind of misnamed. It has none of the lower-mid focus and grit of real BBD delays but it's a very nice warm delay in it's own right with chorus. The digital mode does just what it says on the tin, can be adjusted brighter or darker, nice vibrato modulation. LoFi is the real gem here, warm tape with extra gritty repeats like driving the input of an old tape unit, with wow and flutter-style mod. Multi tap mode is a digital delay with multi-head tap patterns, like the Echorec or Meazzi Echomatic. Shadows and Pink Floyd-style tap patterns are here. Filter mode is a 12 bit digital delay with sweepable EQ filter and echo detuning for maximum weirdness. The pedal is midi or expression pedal capable too for huge configurability in a standard size box. Huge bang for the buck.
