What they DON'T tell you is the RK-87 capsule is made in China as well, as are almost all mic capsules these days for the Neumann, Telefunken, and AKG, clones. The real decision would be based upon if you are unhappy with the sound of your mic. Look for some 3rd party reviews and see what everyone else says about the mod. If it's a good one there should be some reviews out there somewhere. Look on Gearsluts. They have forums with all kinds of reviews.

Good point. I have not done any recording in a couple of years. I don't really recall this mic having serious issues for me. Gearslutz review says this mod takes an unusable mic into usable territory. I like to record my vocals more with a dynamic mic, not a strong singer and dynamic seems to work better for me so this would be an instrument mic. Reading the article and looking at the EQ curves leads me to think I will record something and do a corrective EQ per their specs and see what I think.

If the mic is too bright and EQ doesn't work as well as you would like it to try using a low pass filter to take the bite off the high end.
