I have no idea what bridge that is on the 4001. It was on it when I bought it. I had to make a modification to it to pull the strings down a bit behind the saddles due to not enough break angle and the E string would buzz a bit. I'm seriously considering putting a stock bridge back onto it. The E string has always had a different tone than the rest of the strings. You hear it even when it's not plugged in. It also has a brass nut that was on it when I got it. That may have to go as well. If I used flatwound strings it probably wouldn't be noticeable but with roundwounds it certainly is.

I'm seriously considering putting a stock bridge back onto it. Ric has made a V2 of that bridge, if you were unaware. I am curious as to when the Babicz replacement will finally be available. I am tempted to put one on my 4003s in Midnight Blue (my other is the limited edition color Plumglo, but it has a V2 bridge).

I don’t think I’ve purchased a bass I didn’t like. 4 of my basses I made, all of these are fretless,, three different scales, 34”, 30”`and 20”

Fender Precision is great but I prefer a Fender Jazz Bass with S-1 switch

This would be another solid option, IMHO. Take note that it is a short scale:

I have waaaaay too many basses, but I think if I had to pick one it would be one of my P5s. The SR5 would be a close second.
When I’m asked for a first bass recommendation, I suggest they try a P, a J and a Stingray.

The Precision is my current favorite.
For my first ten years of playing bass I preferred two pickup basses. I even used a Bass VI through a bass booster for a couple years. Then in 1979 I went over to my first single pickup bass. I have had several two pickup basses since, including a heavyweight Jazz Plus with the Kubicki preamp, but I have played nothing but P basses for the last five years.

I’m an old Pbass guy , but now seen to play just about anything but . I prefer short scales these days . Favourites would probably be , Gibson Les Paul DC Jr , Dano Longhorn , Ric 4000 , and recently picked up a Squier Bass VI , can’t keep my hands off the thing .

I'm not a bass player, but I was very impressed with the Musicman Stingray basses used by a couple of band members we had over the years. I've seen it described as Leo Fender's last great innovation. It seemed to me to be the complete package; great design, player-friendly and very versatile.

Me and my 55-94 Deluxe Lakland five-string at the event honoring my former bandmate and very good friend for over 60 years, the Braille Blues Daddy, Bryan Lee. I’ve been playing this bass for twenty plus years and really consider it the nicest playing instrument I’ve owned.

It seemed to me to be the complete package; great design, player-friendly and very versatile. I had played a Stingray five string for about ten years prior to purchasing my Lakland in ‘99. I agree that it was a very well thought out bass, very player-friendly. My only complaint about it was its weight; without a doubt it is the heaviest bass I’ve owned.

This would be another solid option, IMHO. Take note that it is a short scale: I’ve found that short scales with the bridge about 1/3 of the distance into the body feel more like a 34 in scale than a short scale .

When I first switched from guitar to bass, I bought an MIJ Mustang (which has the bridge positioned closer to the strap button/edge of the lower bout). After having adjusted to Guild Starfires and the Dub King, the Mustang now feels like a toy.
