I've had a Hot Rails in my American Standard bridge position for some time, but I'm not sure that I'm not shortchanging it by keeping it on the TBX control. Wondering if I changed to a 500k pot and took the TBX out if that would open things up. Would definitely move the middle pickup off of this pot as well.
Edited to add: I know the standard argument for 500k for sc humbuckers, but my thoughts are I feel I will miss the flexibility of the TBX, but not sure it is suited for this pickup.
Any thoughts on this?

I'm a fan of Duncan's Rails line. They are fantastic pickups. It's difficult to properly answer your question because the tone depends on your signal chain and amp too.
The good news is good pots are relatively inexpensive, and swapping them is a fairly straightforward process. Record your current setup through the full sweep of the pot, and then swap it out and make another recording. Compare both and decide which scheme is the most useful for you.

Going up in pot value or down in cap value with humbuckers can help with the honkiness. When the resonant peak is in that upper midrange area it gets a Fran Drescher thing going on for it. If that is how the pickup sounds to you and you want to nudge it closer to a "full range" sort of sound, swapping components could be helpful.
That said, the TBX is a funny thing, so you might avoiding that in your top range of adjustment anyway.

"a Fran Drescher thing..."
The simple thing to try is wasabi.
