A friend had loaned me his Fender Bassman 800 Pro Hybrid Bass Amp Head and a 1X18 cab with a horn. My music room flooded at one point (nothing was lost) but realized I'd rather it be something I owned that got damaged if it were to happen again. It shouldn't with all of the improvements made but, never say never!
Plus, I thought it was a bit loud for the occasional jam and any rehearsals.
So, I need to find a bass amp that will keep up with a moderately loud drummer, can be used for gigs if needed and for recording.
Prefer a combo type amp in the 4 to $500 dollar range.
I've looked at a few but, need some suggestions.
TIA

... but I doubt it would hold its own in a rock band setting.

Yeah, the PV is probably more practice, coffee house, etc.

I have options that include two amp heads an old SWR 200 and the Genz Benz Shuttle. 9.0, and speaker configurations. I could get by with just the GB 9.0 and the old SWR Goliath cab and the newer SWR golight that would give me 400 watts into one cab and 900 into two.
Get more power than you think you’ll need, the new amps are lighter than ever. My 50 watt rig back in the late 60s was twice as heavy as the 40 lbs 400 watt combo I use today.
I have a 40 watt Fender Rumble hidden behind a lounge chair in the living room that is all I used at home. No drummer “o)

A Fender Rumble 200 or 500 is worth looking at.

tmc-OK-It looks good and a bit above the target price isn't a bad thing! I need it to serve multiple purposes! So, it can hold it's own with a loud drummer???
That's what I needed to know!
Thanks

He's not camping on your couch?!? My last three piece group never used a drummer, we had one when putting our set lists together but before we were ready, he quit. We just carried on without him. The Mandolin player, like many, kept time with simple muted strumming patterns. Worked just fine. My timing is one of my strengths. I even use it for timing traffic lights. I easily hit 7 to 8 green lights of of 10 in familiar traffic patterns. When I do hit a red I can countdown and usually hit the change within a second or two.

I usually prefer looking for used equipment if I’m going for a practice amp and use a TC Electronic RS210 cabinet (paid $100 for it) and an Eden WTX500 (can pick up used for $350-450). TC Electronic makes a nice little combo amp you might find for under $500.

The closest to that (that I know of) would be Hushnel, about 2 1/2 hours away. Looks like a cool little amp.

Another vote for Gallien MB series, but you gotta go used to get below 5 bills... MB210 or 112 either are fine workhorse amps. Check Reverb.com. OR...I landed an SWR Workingman 112 at my local GC for about 300. It's a heavy mug, so if you wanna gig with it be prepared! (but that's why they're so cheap!) If it stays in one place, like mine does, you're OK...and plenty loud enough!

First things First! Thanks to all of you for your Insight Opinions and Recommendations!
I read a lot of reviews and talked with sales people I know from some stores in my area. Didn't seem they had a lot in stock that I was interested in! So, I went looking for used today and couldn't pass up a used Ampeg BA 115 combo amp for $243 total.
It's 4/5 years old with some wear on it but I'll get the extended warranty and hope it holds up for the next few years.
Thanks Again

Another vote for the GK MB200. Can be pretty loud with a 4x10 but pairing very well with a lightweight Fender 115 cab. And another for the Eden WTX. Great hi-fi sounding amp. Although mine had the infamous technical issues of that series. Also not a lightweight with a massive ring transformer. Last but not least the glorious GK MB150 combo. Mine was 300$ used. A little on the heavier side as well and has a little buzz from the chassis at high volumes but sounds great with the fretless.

Well that didn't last long. I returned the Ampeg amp today! Plugged in the bass a friend loaned me yesterday and nothing but junk for tones and no volume! It needs some major work to clean it up! I'm back to looking again.
Definitely going to go new!

Rectification: Wattsapped a friend's studio I parked the GK combo at and it's not heavy at all but also can't play loud. Must have confused that with another one.. But not the Markbass 1x12 combo I had for trial. A little above 4-500 but not by much as far as I remember. A punchy little amp that I liked. And that one would be drummer approved.

I've had my eye on the Rumble 500 2x10 for a while, but haven't had the chance to try one out. It looks good on paper and does get good reviews.

I helped my cousin Pam pick out an amp. Of the Rumbles the 200 watt RMS 1x15 sounded really good.

A local music store had a new Ampeg BA 115 and since I had an in store credit with them it basically covered the costs. Not totally what I wanted but, it's loud enough to hang with any drummer and sounds fine.
Definitely has some punch!

This thread inspired me to find a repair shop for the old GK MB112. Called the local guy and he said he can fix them. He told me he’d call if it turned out to cost more than it’s worth. I’ve dealt with this guy in the past, he’s solid. No sense in keeping it around if it doesn’t work.

A freakin’ power cord, I felt like an idiot, I picked it up yesterday. I know better, somehow it got by me. I had stopped using it for a while, turned it on a while ago and never thought about it again until this thread.
Anyhow the tech guy’s cool, no charge, I gave him some cash anyways, for a few beers or lunch. Spoke with the boss for awhile, brought the 1917 Martin Uke I told him about, I knew he’d be surprised at it’s volume. It virtually proof that frequencies benefit from resonance volume. Less volume they shift towards muffled too much the mids start to scoop. I like small bodied guitars. They just sound better balanced to me.

Wow, I know how embarrassing that must have been but if honest we’ve all have to admit to being bit like that before. Just happy it was nothing major and cudo’s to the repair guy not charging you to fix the problem.

Yeah, I need to be reminded once in a while, their are good reasons to be humble. It’s been fun fooling with this old amp. I got it used from a Guitar Center, paid $200.00. Used it for rehearsal so I didn’t have to haul around the stage rig. It’s a viable little amp, it would cover most of the venues now a days. Though the pro rig is probably lighter, but bulkier, and twice the power.

The 104 year old Martin is pretty amazing. I had one made for me by a ukulele forum member around 15 years ago, Kevin Crossett of Kepasa Ukulele, which is also extremely fine. I’ve been so focused on the bass and guitar lately I’ve not been playing the ukes so much. I need to though, they are great sounding and accompany the voice so well, at least for those that can sing. Though my lame vocals don’t bother me as much as everybody else ”o)
