It does kind of seem like a “kid in a candy store” type situation. If you don’t mind my asking, what was the hiring process like? Were you required to bring them samples of your work? Did you have to actually build stuff in front of them to demonstrate your skills? My professional resume' contained no references to experience doing this stuff, but my cover letter did, and I brought a few samples of my work to pad it. In production they start everybody out on the simple stuff and the hiree progresses based on their abilities. I am perfectly okay with that because I can operate a sander or a band saw all day long and love every minute. If they need me to fret necks I can do that too. No shirt and tie, no managing a workforce...it's me versus the wood!

I do think you should wear some sort of a shirt. Although, it is manly work so maybe going at it bare chested with guns blazing is the right way lol.

Now you can come home and build that organ. A real change from dealing with guitars all day😀
Congrats on the gig. Now we all have chance to buy a guitar partly built by Peegoo.

I do think you should wear some sort of a shirt. You know, I think you're right; that's good advice. If I show up dressed like I normally do, it may scare the ladies in the steno pool and possibly run off potential customers such as Thoth Amon, Kulan Gath, Shuma-Gorath, Dagoth, Zath, and apparently anybody else that happens to have a 'TH' in their name.

After seeing this, I retract my former statement.

I never realized that you speak with a thick, Austrian accent.
That must make your Muddy Waters covers sound "different"...
"I zed, 'my WIVE...my WIVE...'
Dayuzz annuddah myool kiggin' in my schtall..."

If they send you on a parts run for a Fallopian tube, just play along.

You could also be sent for a ‘long stand’ or a tin of tartan paint.
Yup, just play along.

Are those position marker inlays real, fossilized birds?
Now that we have a man "on the inside", we'll be able to learn the truth...

Every job I've had (even when I was getting shot at) I've loved doing. I count my blessings every day.
I've had the pleasure of working with the finest people in the universe.
I figured if I was going to do it, now is the time...I'm 60 years old and in a very short time I will be unhirable. This is an actual exchange from the initial interview:
Hiring manager: "You're retired military?"
Me: "Yes, Air Force. After that, I worked for 15 years as a federal contractor."
HM: "Usually, military retirees just want a part-time job so they can play golf..."
Me: "Oh, I like golf, but I would much rather have a full-time job building guitars."

The question is, will he still want to talk about guitars after a long day at work? This job could become a problem for us. 😄

I can't help but wonder what might happen if they allow you some after hours personal time in the shop.

You probably know this already, but get your breathing protection ready! Guitar factories, even with amazing dust collection, are hard on the boogers. The harder the wood, the finer the dust, and (as you know) there's lots and lots of sanding on guitars as opposed to other woodworking scenarios where stuff can come straight from a planer or saw to the product.
The big question is: does he show up with his custom apron on the first day, or is that like showing up first day of school with the brand new sneakers?

Best of luck my friend...getting paid for something that is your passion is without equal.. Paul is a lucky guy to have someone as dedicated as yourself... back in the mid 70s' one of my room mates was good friends with a local DC area band..Paul built their guitars for them...we had many all night jams!... I can't imagine what they are worth right now... Now don't get Chickeny kid!
omg the swear filter strikes again!

I'm real reluctant to add to this except to say "great news"
My hobby was hot rods, then I got a job involving them, ruined my hobby.

Masks are required 100% of the time anyway, so it's a perfect time for it. Everyone is also issued hearing protection that's Bluetooth enabled so you can listen to music, podcasts, etc., while you work.

I gave this a whole lot of thought and have considered it a possibility. One of the reasons I made the leap: time is my only investment; there's nothing major at stake.

At the places I've been PPE are made available and encouraged by HR, but tend to be forgotten about after that.
I was a late adopter to the ear muffs until I realized that the dull headache at the end of the day was gone if I wore them. I've worked other jobs where they make fun of me, and eventually come around and get their own, then become evangelists themselves.

Not to mention hard on hearing and a cause of Tinnitus
