I don't have a bass amp. All I do is recording so a big bass amp isn't a necessity for me. I have a Crate bass amp cabinet that has an old 15" JBL M31-4 speaker in it. It's supposedly rated at 200 watts and is 4 ohms. Would my BFTRRI work as a bass amp with the external cabinet and sound half way decent? I can always run a DI line into Pro Tools as well for some oomph. I also have the original speaker that was in the Crate cabinet. It's in a box in the attic and I don't remember what kind it is.

Any of those black or silver panel Fenders that have a 4 screw mounting OT make a fantastic bass amp. Best to use the normal channel and a closed back cab. 4x12 are great, that’s their original application. Depending on the particular model, tweaking a couple of coupling cap values may make it even better, eg if the cap at the LTP power amp input is 500oF or 1nF, increase it to 10 or 22nF. Concerns about the OT and output valve stress are groundless, provided cab impedance is in line with the amp’s intended load. And overdriving a bit, or more than a bit, sounds great.

I'm not going to use it as a bass amp very often. It will still be used as a guitar amp primarily. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't damage anything and sound good. The JBL speaker I have is in a closed back cabinet and is 4 ohms. I believe that's what the speaker load on the Twin is rated at.

99% of them are 4ohms, though there’s perhaps one from the 80s, Rivera era maybe, that’s different, eg 16ohms. But yeah, your TRRI and JBL should be a happy pairing. Bear in mind that cab designs are often tuned to the Thiele Small characteristics of a particular speaker, so a different speaker, even an ostensibly better one, might not perform as well in there.

Same amp as a Showman from my early days as a bass player, the only amp I used for around 18 years with various speaker configurations attached (up to four 15” JBLs in two cabinets) and it never failed.

Over the years I have owned an early '70s Princeton Reverb Amp, a 1966 Band-Master head, and a 1962 Concert Amp (4-10 combo). All have sounded stellar with bass cabinets.

You'll be happy.
I used a 1x15 JBL cab as my primary for everything (guitar and bass) for YEARS with a big honkin' ol' '65 BF Bassman.

Many years ago I used my Twin Reverb through a Bassman 2X15. cabinet. Ultimately that led me to convert my 1968 Bassman head into a pseudo-Bassman 100 with a switcheable midrange tone circuit bypass for bad Marshall-like tone.
