I installed a set of custom wound pickups today that I've had for a few years...and in the process of installing the bridge pickup I failed to notice it was not centered in the opening and when I started to tighten the height adjustment screws one side of the bobbin on top came loose..pressed it back in place and after I got done and fired her up it sounded fine until I hit the overdrive pedal....
it squealed like a pig as you can imagine....but if I pressed on the bobbin with my pick where it was loose it stops...
sooo next string change I'm going to try to fix it...but what sort of adhesive do you guys recommend?

Is it wax potted? That doesn't sound fun.

I would be tempted to try a hair drier to carefully warm/reflow the wax - assuming it’s wax-potted.

Yeah I'm pretty sure its potted...I had the guitar sitting outside in the sun for awhile and when I picked it up to play it I noticed what looked like some staining around a couple of the pole pieces...I'm assuming its wax...
Tomorrow I will try the hair drier..I also have a heat gun....but only use the low setting...
I'll post back with my findings...

well I'll be a sunofabitch......just for kicks I just heated up the bridge pup while still mounted on the guitar strings and all...and hit it with the heat gun for about 30 seconds and used a chisel to provide pressure on the top bobbin between each set of strings...
its still a bit microphonic but it can handle more volume and OD now before it starts to get noisy...heck it probably did anyway but I never paid much attention to it....
next string change I'll hit it again when I can remove it from the guitar

Gently clamp it together (spring clamps work great for this) and then warm it up with a hair dryer. Watch the coil wire very closely and you'll see the wax go shiny the moment it liquifies. Don't be afraid to hold a small piece of paraffin in the hot air stream to add a little more to the undersde of the upper flatwork.
