Hey folks. This is an item that keeps coming back into my wheelhouse. Universal Audio Ox. As someone that owns a collection of tube amps I think I could find some use from one of these. I own an attenuator and realize you can't take a 40 watt amp, crank the volume to 7 and then bring it down to bedroom levels, so it's not a miracle cure. But for recording it adds so much more like cab sims, effects loops, mic placement, etc.
Just wondering if anyone around here has any experience with one (or the one that Boss makes?) and how they're getting along with it. Cheers!

I wish I could help, but I don't understand what these Ox's are. Seems to me they are sort of an "amps in a box" product, which leaves me wondering "why do we need/want amps?" I'm know I'm missing the pint. I just don't know what that point is.

I have a similar product which is a Two Notes Torpedo Captor X. The 'Ox' is a bit pricey but is probably better at attenuation than the X. I've been fooling around with mine for sometime now and I'm beginning to understand its uses. Maybe I'm a little slow on the uptake with these things or something. I like the cab sim parts of this thing although the programming is gauged for you to spend money and add new cabs from their site. I suppose buying a cab sim would be OK from time to time. I've bought a few including a cab sim that was from my first amp which lead to finding and buying the real thing. Stuff like this gives you ideas I tell ya! Anyway, I bought the X for the attenuation portion which is a bit disappointing as it is nothing more than a 3 position switch. I've tried this function on a few of my amps and it always leads to the amp breaking up when trying to hit the 'sweet spot' of the amp, which is what attenuation is supposed to be all about. Mind you, I'm not disappointed in the purchase of the X, just the attenuation part. It is only somewhat useful in my estimation.

During Covid the guitarist Johnny A. did a daily stream and he uses one of these and gave an overview of how it works. He said he doesn't use speakers on stage anymore-uses this plugged into the board. He put an amp on 10 and got the volume to such a low level with the same tone. The studio options are plentiful for sure. The cab choices , effects and mic placements are very good-according to him. He is known for the great tone he gets. Plenty of you tube videos. The reviews for this are pretty outstanding. Will keep you experimenting for days.

I contemplated the OX for some time but ended up with a Fryette PS2A reactive load box. I just needed sometjing better than the attenuators I've been using for the last 15 years and the PS2A does the job.

I'm still here and thinking about the Ox. Thanks for your thoughts.
