I have a 339 with f-holes, great guitar. I like 335's, but never got one. I like smaller, more comfortable guitars and single-coils, hence Fenders. If I'm going to go that big, might get a vintage Gretsch.

I had a 1966 335 and I sold it in 1983 because a pal made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
I now have a 3399 (339... small body 335 with a fat '59 neck). It is a peach of a guitar.
I love it and I should play it more that I do.

Here's a link to the Gretsch 6120T, like the one I purchased, that very closely emulates a vintage guitar without the vintage price or possible condition issues.

Cool, thanks...that looks really nice. You're right about condition, I heard Gretsch had some spotty quality control back in the day.

If you go vintage on Gretsch, the two most expensive things to fix are the neck angle and the binding. Many will need neck resets, and some of them have centerlines that are way off to the side. Some older ones have rotting binding, and I'm yet to see a reasonably easy way to fix that. Binding was never intended to be installed after the guitar is finished and assembled, and even when you take the neck off and commit to doing some finish touch up, it is a truly ridiculous undertaking. Plan on doing a refret on any vintage instrument to get it playing like a new instrument. If you don't have to do it, consider it a bonus.

My two 1978 ES-347 201? ES-339 Trad Pro (I added the pick guard to protect and they'd look the same) I had watched it a GC for several months and they had marked it down to $1,300 and couldn't resist. Great guitar I gigged after I had retired the 347.

My favorite electric guitar. I've owned two 335s and an MIA Epiphone Riviera.

For a long time I also wanted a real 335. But, like some have already stated, the cost of entry was too difficult to justify. Although, awhile ago, I did stumble across something that worked for me; Yamaha SA-2200. ibb.co/cT0LkVXRoger, I have an SA 2200, exactly like the one in your pic....great guitar! Also have a Mr 335....none too shabby, either!

First really good guitar I had was a 330. Loved it. Got stolen. Haven't found the 335 yet.

Okay - I think it's because my setting was set to private. I changed it to public. Try now. Maybe this is why I couldn't just embed the pic.

I bought a Custom Shop 335 2nd in 1990 for about $800. Have never figured out what the supposed flaw is. The finish is a nice, flamed sunburst. Don't know how it escaped the factory, since Gibson doesn't seem to like to let guitars they deem to be sub-standard escape: www.musicradar.com/news/gibson-just-destroyed-100s-of-firebird-x-guitars-heres-whyBest 335-type guitar I ever had was a mid-60s, Kalamazoo-made, Epiphone Riviera. It was originally a 12-string that a luthier did a flawless job converting to six. As a result, it had a wide, baseball-bat neck rather than the 60s "slim-taper" that so many of them did. I didn't realize at the time how special it was in that regard so I sold it off. Wish I hadn't. Had another Gibson 335 back during the early 1070s, but it was a dog.

I never started playing guitar until I was in my late 40's and what with family taking up most of our budget I couldn't really justify the expense of proper Fender's Gibson's etc but being a pretty good jack of all trades I was able to upgrade my guitars and amps over the years. The es335 in the pic is from the Hohner Professional range, same range as Prince's telecaster. Years back 1998 I think I went to buy an amp from a guy and he had this beautiful blonde es335 which he also sold me. It is much modified with quality parts etc in fact the only thing left of the original other than the wood is the tailbar. It has darkened considerably over the years and sounds to me and others who have played it like a 335 semi solid should. It is a keeper for sure. i.imgur.com/OYtH5I8.jpg

I've got one, as well as an old Sheraton (I like that better than the 335) and and old El Degas copy with the varitone, (which is kinda cool).
But frankly they don't do much for me overall, those 3 will most likely be sold off sooner than later. I much prefer a solid body Gibson.

Is that Clark a Beaufort Special? Great amps. Good eye. It certainly is. I think I bought it from someone on the old Fender Forum about twenty years ago! Still have it and love playing through it. Same with that Carr Merc in the picture.

Does Blacksunshine have an official 335 yet? Ha! This thread is still going on? Pfft, I've moved on to trying to collect every Ibanez 10-series pedal. Of course, you know how my obsessions go, it'll be something new next week.

ES 335 Pro with Dirty Finger pickups
It is the "loudest" guitar I own. The amp that gets played at home stays on the same volume setting, the volume being changed on the guitar, the volume knobs on this guitar are barely over 1

I was interested in a 335 in 2005. I did not want to purchase one without playing it and looking it over. There were not many to choose from in St. Louis, and I was taken back at the lack of build quality, fretwork, and overall finish work. This may have been a coincidence. The Epiphones at that time made the Gibsons look second rate fit and finish wise. Only one Gibson 335 I played met my expectations, but I just could not settle on a walnut finish with gold hardware. I ended up buying a '05 Heritaage 535. I am making no comments comparing this to a 335, but I have been absolutely pleased with the decision. Yes, I would have liked the pride of ownership and prestige of a 335, but I am not turning back in my lifetime. Subsequently, I have played a couple of 335s that were fantastic.

Going back to ‘75 or so I’ve owned a couple of 335 Gibsons, but the guitar I always wanted to own since playing it in 1963 was my friend’s ‘59 345. After losing track of the guitar for many years I managed to buy it in the late ‘80s.

That is awesome Laker. After I bought my '95 335 used, I didn't quite get on with it. Didn't feel right. I decided to get a fret level. I took it to a local guy, Kenny Marshall. He did a great job and it has played great ever since!

Oh dear, was having a play on the 335 tonight and it gave a crackle when the lead moved.
Further investigation revealed the jack was loose...then after wondering why it wouldn't tighten this happened.
