Finally went ahead and made this buy. The demo's I watched were very good imho! And the Real reason for getting this is I can crank my Marshall (on the 5 watt setting) and she (Mrs Zen) won't be able to hear it loud!! She has great hearing!!! I've been told to turn down a time or two! Anyone else using attenuators? YT link

I’ve got a Z Air Brake and a Koch Dummybox. The Air Brake is used with my Marshall half-stack.
Both is these work well for my purposes.

Have a Weber Mini-Mass with the DI out, use it for both attenuator and silent recording.
VERY happy.

Thanks Leftee and reverendrob, I was looking at the ones y'all have and more.
I liked this one for all the features it has.

Mini-Mass won out simply because of the utility factor - it lets me match WHATEVER cab I want to my HRD as well, and always has a reliable DI feed that actually sounds pretty decent - I bump the highs a little with the switch on the unit, it just sounds more realistic that way. Apply a little room verb in the mix with a mic's amp, and presence and clarity.
Not that I worry about track count in this day and age!

I’ve had a Mass unit a long time ago. They are great. The Ironman looks excellent as well.
The reason I bought the Air Brake was for the half-stack. The Koch has a lot more recording functionality - not that I’ve used it for that yet.

Sigh. These things are the bane of my tonal quest.
I have a Mayfly BC 15 head. It's a 15 watt version of a Vox AC30. Many years ago I had the Weber attenuator. I plugged the head into to Weber, into my cab. It was glorious! For about 15 minutes when the amp fizzled out. Fizzled is the best word, that's what it sounded like. Dead. Over the Canadian border, back to Trevor May, the maker of this fine amp. He fixed it for free, told me I was using the wrong cord (I used a guitar cord) and that I needed a speaker cable. So I got one and tested it out but shortly after sold the Weber and cab.
Flash to last year. I bought the Airbrake. Hooked everything up to what I was told was a speaker cable and very shortly thereafter, zap goes my new Laney VC30.
I still have the Airbrake but am too scared to venture a tryout on any of my other amps. What to do?🤔

Had a Weber Mini Mass that was alright in doing what it said it would. It was also robbing the amp some of its punch and I was expecting doom from frying the little bugger in the end. Just like Vibroluxer's. Today I'm happier with a genuine modeling amp at home.

I have a THD UniValve with the built-in Hot Plate attenuator and use that almost 100% of the time.

The deal with attenuators is that they will help ferret out a bad output tube or speaker cable rather effectively.

I have used the Ultimate Attenuator for 17 years cranking my Marshall and fender amps. The thing i like about it is it has a smooth volume knob like a sterio not a click down knob so you dial it in exactly. It allso has dual volume controls that are foot swithcable and its totaly transparent sounds great. Here it is on my 68 Super trem half stack cranked

I have used 3 attenuators over the years and still have them all. Each is different but work very well. My original is a Scholz Power Soak. Next is a rackmount Marshall SE 100 and finally I have an 8 ohm THD Hot Plate.

Had the Marshall SE 100 (in 2004) I used with my 1987X Marshall head and 2X12 cab. Wished I would have kept that set up!!! Nice that you still have all 3 mike!!

They all seem to be in fine condition and can still do the job they were designed for. The SE 100 is not seen around very often, yet is a very versatile unit.
