^That^ line could be in a verse in the Tom Waits tune Big In Japan. So I've been selectively pulling cuts and drops from the waste wood bins at the guitar factory. This stack is 30" wide x 3' long by 5' tall. Mostly mahogany, with swamp ash, korina, figured maple, and some walnut and rosewood in there too. I am out of storage room, so I need to start making stuff with it to make room for more wood. I just gotta find the time to do it.

Speaking of knotty, I woke up this morning and just had to tie the Highway man’s hitch. If you don’t use them, ya loose them.

Cool! Make us a calico guitar...
I wish I could find some info on it but it seems to have vanished: 25 years or so ago someone opened a small guitar shop in my town; it didn't last for long, the guy quickly went to the then nascent internet scene. Anyway, he had a very interesting guitar in a plexiglass case. It was a replica of a Gibson L-5 (or something close to that) but the body was made up of glued-up pieces of random bits of wood that were approximately 1/4" x 1 1/2". The story was that it was built by an ex-gibson employee while doing time at Jackson prison. Very cool.
