New-ish, but after having been played a couple of hours.

Couple hours is perfect, all downhill from there.

I dont change them unless I break one. ^^ This. Flatwounds only and FastFret to keep 'em tidy.

I don't change mine unless they get thwacked or don't hold tune or are pitted to a point where they feel icky.
I DESPISE the jangly new string thing.

New for me after a proper stretch. Then again, I keep strings for years because my hands are very non-acidic.

Day or two old, played on for an hour or two.
Like the Rev mentioned, I dislike the sound of new strings, too jingle jangly.

I voted new, but really, they're perfect for me after about 2 hours of playing.

Don’t like rustic strings at all. Also acoustic strings last a long time but you can hear them degrade over time.

New strings have a lovely chime to them but they need to be broken in.
Old dead stings suck.
Somewhere in the middle of that all lies the perfect strings.
So...there needs to be a third option in the poll.

Old strings sound like poop and don't stay in tune better than new strings. That's not my cuppa tea.

As a bedroom player, I can go years between string changes. I voted for old strings, although I do like new strings.

Relatively new well-stretched strings for my guitars and basses equipped with roundwounds. Old LaBella Jamerson flatwounds for my Precision bass.
Since I rarely play out any more I changed four sets of strings on my electrics that were four or five years old just last week. Talk about dead.....

I voted for new but only after being well stretched, conversely on my Dobro type resonator I never change them and it seems to sound better and better so go figure.

Another for the new, stretched out feel and tone. I have a couple of guitars I'm looking at right now that are begging for string changes, but in the last few months I've bought a new home and moved to different city so it hasn't been a priority. I'm just getting back into playing regularly.

I like new-ish strings. They hold tuning and give me the Twang I want on electric and the presence I want on acoustic.

Depends on context. I usually like them broken in at least a little. But on my jazz purposed guitars, I like rounds broken in for a while. Flats I like after a short break in, but I still leave them on for a couple years if they are working for me.
