Howdy tweakers, gonna try my hand at a post here. So I have an HSH Strat that I am going to convert to a simple H-H configuration with a 3 way blade switch. I will be using a traditional pickguard layout (2 covered humbuckers, 3 controls V-V-T and switch). I plan on using a schematic derived from the S-D site. My question is, have any of you ever had this config and any opinion/perception of the middle position? I know a Strat won't sound like a Gibson, but I'm wondering how the spacing between the two pickups will affect the anticipated two-buckers-on sound. I initially thought of doing 1 volume/2 tone, but think having separate pickup volume controls will be more versatile. Thoughts?

Hey brother!
Two humbuggies in a Strat is a great motor for an electric guitar. Neither pickup by itself (or in combination) will sound exactly like a Les Paul, but that does not necessarily mean it will not sound good. I love the tone of an HH Strat.
I'm a 'simple controls' sort of player, and I'm perfectly content with a Strat, even with three SC pickups, having one vol and one tone. However, if you're the sort of player that is used to a Les Paul layout and you tend to rely on different volume levels for your pickups, e.g., neck pickup rolled back for rhythm and bridge pickup cranked for fills/leads, then maybe 2V1T is your bag.
There really is no 'best' answer to your question.. It all depends on how you play the guitar.

Thanks Peegoo. I'm pretty well set in the 2V/1T decision, providing there is nothing problematic with the wiring diagram. I hope to get the certain "ping" voicing of two humbuckers on.
Here's an approximation of what I'm doing.

That will certainly work great. Duncan's wiring diagrams are easily among the best and most reliable on the Web.

The H/H Strat I configured sounds really great. The neck pickup is deep and bluesy and the bridge is bright and snappy. Together the blend to create a very full tone, from bottom to top. It is a very sweet tone. And infinitely adjustable with a volume control on each pickup (no tone control).
A little history...
Except for the Tele, which I came to late in life, I tend not to use a guitar’s tone control(s) any ways. That come from years of playing before the innerwebs as it was there I learned why my tone controls never worked on my guitars. So I “grew up 😂🤔” without the guitar tone control.
But I do recommend this setup for a double fat Strat. It is a very honest set of tones with the Parson Streets.

Hey Leftee, thanks. I'm not much of a tone knobber myself. Maybe 10 to 7, that's it. Because I'm letting the pickguard dictate the configuration, I will be having 1 tone knob though.

👍
I ordered a two hole guard. In fact, I use that on all my Strat builds now. They just have the two tone control holes.

Ok, maybe I've become to daft to do this stuff anymore. The Parson Street buckers are too deep for this guitar. Jeez...
