I hooked up my new compressor to my digital recording interface today to use as an external hardware device inside Pro Tools. It took me a little while to figure out how to configure everything but I got it working with the help of a YouTube video. The hardest part was configuring the Focusrite Control software for the 18i20 interface so it would talk to the extra inputs and outputs. It was pretty intuitive but I had to try a few different things before I got it working. Now that I know how to do that I can attach my old Lexicon PCM70 and use it as an external effects device too. That will be huge. That thing sounds better than any reverb plugin I have every used, not to mention the versatility of it. There are far more parameters for making adjustments than the reverb plugins provide. It also has 6 programmable delays in it that can be combined in many different ways to achieve some very complex environments. This is going to be fun.

Yeah, I never graduated Pro Tools 101 and find I/O stuff very confusing beyond aux bussing. I still struggle with re-amping cuz I use it so infrequently.

I have never re-amped anything. Personally, I can't really find a need for it. Anything I record will have the guitar tracks in the arrangement early on so, whatever tone they have, everything else has to work around them. Not the other way around. It's not very likely I would ever print a guitar sound I thought didn't sound good when I recorded it. If it sounded good then, it will sound good later if everything else is constructed around it.
