A friend of mine picked one up at the local Goodwill for $20 complete with nice hardshell case. It is a 1979 and cosmetically in good shape especially for its age. This is one of the earlier Ibanez basses that owes very little to American basses, although I can see that Ibanez had planned this to compete with Musicman. Problems included lack of strings and butchered wiring of the active tone circuit. Some goofball had bypassed parts of the active circuit and converted it to passive. So my friend is using some color photos of the wiring to recreate the original circuit.
In 1979 I was in the market for a good bass and bought a boat anchor-heavy Kramer B200. I certainly would have considered the Roadstar based on its playability and active circuitry. But none of the music stores in my area carried Ibanez basses.
Anyone own or play one?
