While experimenting with my newly acquired Silvertone Twin 12, I been messing with putting some pedals in front of it and trying different guitars (and as far a that goes, this amp makes all my guitars sound great) as well. As you may or may not know, the Twin has reverb and tremolo. Reverb in a Twin 12 has been more of an annoyance than a benefit although, it is tolerable up to level 4 on this amp. However, the tremolo is a different story. One of the best around, IMO and that of many others from my understanding.
Now, as far a using pedals with this amp, I've been using a E H Holy Grail for the reverb and it works great with the kind of reverb sound one might be looking for. Another pedal I've been using is a Visual Sounds H2O which incorporates Echo and Chorus, separately, in one unit. It has been my understanding that there was not much love for this pedal but, I could not understand why. It always did the Echo/Chorus thing fine I thought. Of course, these pedals have been around for quite sometime now and neither is a pedal I use much anymore but, I thought the Holy Grail would be a good match for the Twin 12 and it has been.
However, after using the H20 for the first time in quite a while, I noticed something I didn't before and I'm wondering if it might not be one of the reasons for it's lack of love. I noticed that when using either the echo or chorus, the sound ambiance(is that what it is?) changes and it sounds 'boxy'. Quite noticeable and not something I noticed before as I recall. Is it the amp? No, as it has the same effect with the other amp I'm using, a Twin Reverb. IMO, this pedal wouldn't be useable in a recording situation as the change in sound and tone would be too much for the overall recording. Too bad because it's built like a tank.
Anybody else have this experience with this or any other pedal?
