I'll preface this by admitting that I'm a dinosaur/technological simpleton, so I'm probably asking a question whose answer is already known to most of you younger guys.
I periodically throw together CD playlists comprised of tunes from my i-Tunes library. Then I'll play bass along with them.
One problem I frequently encounter is that, though most of the songs on a list will be in tune with one another, occasionally the band in a given tune will have intentionally drop-tuned their guitars/basses a half step or the song will be sharp or flat a microtone for some other, unknown reason.
Is there some easy way that I can tweak these "oddball" tunes so that I can play through the entire playlist without having stop and re-tune my bass? I know there is software that will allow you to alter a song's tempo without changing its pitch (in order to slow down difficult passages in order to learn them) but am ignorant as to how I might easily resolve the problem I've outlined above.
Please clue the dummy in...

I use Amazing Slow Downer (ASD) to change the key of a recording. All that is involved is importing the song file into ASD , opening the song file and then altering the key in semi-tone increments to the desired pitch. Final step is executing a "Save Song As" command from the ASD menu. I use ASD to change pitch and tempo. Amazing Slow Downer link

I haven't really played around much with changing pitch outside of Pro Tools. I don't know if Audacity (free) has such options, but I have another suggestion. Find the tunes outside of A440 tuning and specifically tune dedicated basses to that track. If your non A440 tracks exceed the number of basses you have, then...well...certainly your wife will understand. 😄

Thanks!
I've heard of ASD before, but didn't realize it can vary pitch as well as tempo.
I'll look into it, to be sure.

ASD is great and I highly recommend it. If you go too far out or tune there are artifacts but nothing more than a whole step or two still sounds pretty good.

We’re gentle unless you’re Clapton going back on tour.

We’re gentle unless you’re Clapton going back on tour. I do have slow hands, but beyond that, there's little resemblance.
