There are small chores that have to be done everyday around the house. Some are more time consuming than others. The one that annoys me the most is not hard to do, or takes a lot of time but, it still annoys me everyday. Making the bed. I always get up be fore my wife but she never makes the bed. I don't like looking at it unmade all day long so I make it everyday. It only takes a couple minutes but I still hate it.
What's yours?

I’m hit and miss. Some days I dive into the menial task without so much as a though. Other days I avoid them.
I think the dishwasher loading/unloading would be my #1 annoyance. Thankfully my wife steps up in this area. And when I see her step away from this, I step up. Works out nicely.

Vacuuming.
We have a fairly large house with a dog. Neither my wife nor I are thrilled to do it because it takes some time and effort. Therefore it doesn't get done for a couple of weeks. I have often said we should hire a housekeeper just to clean bathrooms and vacuum. Wife has not signed onto that idea yet.

Doing the cat litter boxes each morning. Daily exercise grind that takes up an hour. I'm with the OP on the bed making. Maybe it's left over from my Army stint, but I can't leave the bed rumpled after I get up. I MUST flatten sheets and comforter and draw everything up tight, corner to corner.

Vacuuming is like an oasis. The animals scatter and I can't hear people yelling at me over the sweet purr of the vacuum.

I have a beard now and shave only a couple of times a week. But when I was a young professional, I gristled at shaving every day.

For me it's folding laundry. I don't mind ironing, though.

We have two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. They run daily and then we vacuum once every other week. With the higher end models they map the area and keep docking/recharging/resuming until the area is done. We love ours.

At 72, so long as my health holds steady, I'm not gonna complain.

Driving to and from work. It's a 60 mile round trip through the city. I am in the same spot you are, and I recently had a job that was about 25 minutes one way. That is enough for me (yes, I was spoiled for many years by about a 10 minute drive away and it appears I will be able to retain that through another gig).

Probably my nightly routine of meds, supplements, shutting down the house and going to bed. There's something "Groundhog Day"-ish about the routine.

Policing the backyard for dog poop. We are told that a dog's nose is 40 times more sensitive than ours -- it's a wonder that she still finds a way to step in her own poop.
I won't say the task is annoying -- I walk her three times a day and I'd rather collect crap in my own backyard than bag it while out in public. . She's an 80 pound Golden Retriever -- one of her loads is not unsubstantial.

"One word: Roomba."
I don't think a Roomba would work for us.
1. Dog hair - would have to be cleaned out every 5 min. I don't think their dust bins are very big. 2. Dog is afraid of the vacuum.

I make the bed every day, I'm a firm believer that if it's one of those 5-minute tasks then just knock it out.
I wash dishes as I go, and they're all put away before leaving for work.
The Roomba is the way to go, mine is the high-end model that empties itself.. and even though I have two cats, one with long hair, if you run the thing three times a week it takes care of the situation.
Cleaning the litter box is a pain, but I see they make robots for that too.
One of my biggest gripes is that no one puts water in the coffee machine except me... however, since I've been on my own for almost 6 years since the old girl passed away, if I don't do it it doesn't get done.
So yeah, heading off to work every night is my annoying daily menial task.

Keeping up with the Rx’s, buying, loading daily boxes with sub-compartments for different times of the day. Tedious, time consuming and requires close attention to detail.

When you get into the mid level and higher models, they have rollers that are designed to deal with that. We have a dog and two cats....not a problem. We run ours 5 days a week and empy the bins a couple times a week. Two units cover 5400 sq ft. Our dog doesn't like them, but she just keeps her distance. It's kinda comical when it comes into a room she's in. She sighs, gets up and goes somewhere else. I guess the roomba is her annoying daily hassle.

Our dog cares so little about the roomba that it frequently runs into him. 😂

There's a certain level of irony that arises, if only on an unconscious level, when we complain about this routine drudge work. I say this because it's the very familiar, repetitive, routine nature of these tasks that sometimes helps create some illusion of "normal" during otherwise tumultuous times such as the ones in which we currently find ourselves. I'm sure it varies from person to person but, to some degree, these chores can function as both a security blanket and a distraction from more serious unpleasantness.

Not sure if this qualifies as menial, as it is a bit seasonal. I have elk the come at night and mow my lawn by chewing on the grass, which is great. Unfortunately, they leave great piles of poop. I have to go scoop it up and dispose of it before my dog runs out and eats it like milk duds, or rolls in it. Such a life.

We have elk that wander across the local golf course.
You can take relief from the "milk duds."
lol.

Emptying my bowels. But I ease the torture by catching up on my Moe's reading. Still though, the worst 45 minutes of my day.
