Was watching a TV show about a particular sport yesterday and there were constant references to betting/wagering about points scored, points differences in scores as well as other potential events to happen.
So I am just conducting a survey for my own interest as to how many people actually bet on sporting events.
If you do is it weekly, monthly or yearly ?

I've never bet on a sports event in my life save for going to a racetrack once and putting $2 on a horse (I lost). I don't go to casinos either. The only bets I make are on the long term health of the financial markets and even then I'm cautious.

Never ever. Not my cup of tea.

When I was in high school, I played a college bowl pick for 10 bucks. I knew nothing about sports so just followed the odds from the local paper. I won.
That was the last time.

Not so much. I’m going to a Super Bowl party where they do boxes for $3 each, I’ll buy 5 just to participate, a couple more if spaces need to be filled at the end.
I’ve never won a single quarter, going on like 10 years now at the same party.

Nope. Never have. The only gambling I do is I get out of bed every day to meet the world with my face in the fire.

I went to a casino exactly once. I was attending a non-gambling event in the same hotel. My in-laws were watching my daughter, and my father in law handed me $20 and asked me to bet whatever number he told me on roulette.
$20 gone 30 seconds after entering the floor.
I put a couple bucks in a cheap slot machine, and that was the end of that.

Have not ever bet on sports, do not follow or watch sports. Played a casino with a band for 2 weeks. Sat down to blackjack one night with $20, left with $100. Tried again the next night and they cleaned me out. My last time. But, I did better than the sound man, the 1st week he took draws from the casino for $25 more than his weekly pay. He lived kinda lean the next week, at my insistence. I did not want to end up supporting his habit, even a little.

it's sad because many people bet with money they can't afford to lose

Nope, not me. Except for baseball, I don't even pay much attention to professional sports.
But based on the sports betting I saw go on at places where I've worked, gambling is a BIG factor in the popularity of spectator sports, HUGE, in fact.
Heck, they even had betting pools on "fantasy leagues". At one place where I worked, the guys who were running the fantasy league betting one year were threatened with serious, physical violence because they were suspected of having fixed the pool.

I don't bet on anything. However I was smack dab in the middle of hundreds of people who do just about an hour and a half ago. I was task with moving all of the guest sitting in the Race and Sport Book OUT in order to vacate the seats for another batch who were willing to pay for reserve seating for the game. It turns into a *5 Star* match of wits at times.

I used to place small bets on NFL games many years ago, and more or less broke even over the course of a season.

In May of ‘65 I walked into my favorite “watering hole” and was told there was one square left on the pool for the Clay/Liston fight. Ordinarily I wouldn’t buy into a pool, but my friends were begging me to do it to fill the pool before the fight started so I purchased the last square. When the numbers on the pool were drawn and I ended up with 1 I thought that was a waste of money...who ever heard of a pro heavyweight fight ending in the first round. Well, I couldn’t believe it when Liston went down from the “mystery punch” in the first round and I won the pool. In the 55 years since I’ve been in a handful of pools and won better than 50% so I’m still ahead of the game!

I'm another one of those who don't bet on anything.
