FYI J-Lo is 50. She's much closer in age to the Moe's demographic than to The Youths. Which leads me to think that if the average Boomer doesn't find any value in the music, a provocative performance is all that's left to view. And there are far better options on the innernets to get that, or so I'm told. 🙄

I like watching the Super Bowl. Especially this year’s game. The halftime show? These shows aren’t my idea of entertainment. So halftime was spent with the nature call... and more food.
Great game! It was awesome that I had a break in the middle.

I enjoyed Shakira. J-Lo not so much. As for that tongue thing that Shakira did, here's an explanation. "Like much of Shakira’s widely heralded performance, which was full of nods to her Colombian and Lebanese heritage, the seemingly random trill actually carried deep cultural significance. To those familiar with Middle Eastern culture, the sound was akin to a traditional Arabic expression of joy and celebration called a zaghrouta. It was also interpreted as a reference to the world-famous Carnaval de Barranquilla, which is held in Shakira’s hometown in Colombia." www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/02/03/shakira-tongue-superbowl/

I thought the game was really good. The half-time show wasn't that bad. I thought a couple of the commercials were more offensive. J-Lo is 50 and Shakira is 43. It wasn't for kids and I bet most kids weren't watching. If you let your kids watch You Tube videos they have seen much more of what you would call offensive.

I thought the half time show was vulgar. I don't care if the women's were pretty, it was just vulgar to me. I watched only part of it.
So, we get to watch millions of $$ worth of ads empowering women and then see a stripper half time show.
Crazy...

I don't get it. Who are they fooling? If I want my regular dose of porn it's just a couple mouse clicks away and all there without any pretense. Those costumes mean nothing anymore.

Perspective is everything. Family sitting watch half-time with impressionable kids, or adult perv sitting in the dark watching porn on computer.

Well clearly, but that's not what I was responding to. The post questioned why people would enjoy the halftime show when real porn is just a click away. I will admit I don't offend easy, but that halftime show was pretty tame, I am surprised by the "uproar".

The halftime performances were not my cup of tea, and although I found certain aspects of them provocative, I would stop shy of calling them vulgar. If I had kids, I wouldn’t be miffed over them seeing it.

I get it...there's tons of crap on YT, or basically just about everywhere on the net. The uproar is most people didn't think it was appropriate for family viewing.

I watched very little of the halftime show, I didn't feel it was worth watching. My wife did watch it, and she felt it went way too far for family viewing. I've now seen the replays on the news, and I have to agree with her, but I'm anything but surprised. What's surprising is all the morning talk shows raving about how great it was.
Today, there are articles all over the internet defending the halftime show. If it didn't need to be defended, the articles wouldn't be there.

I didn't watch the game or the halftime show, but I saw some clips. Shakira is hotter than a firecracker.

As far as women's rights it fell exactly in line with current 2020 standards. Whether you liked the half-time show or not, you probably agree that the 2 ladies are attractive and they were expressing their feminism in a way they choose. They are both very skillful dancers whether you like the moves or not.. I can't move like that and I doubt anyone would want to see me try. I would rather watch that than they way a few ladies were dancing at the wedding reception I played Saturday night. It was not pornographic but suggestive, which is part of dancing from throughout history.
It feels to me that a lot of people are saying that someone else should decide what they or their children watch so they don't have to make the effort.

I have zero problem with the women or their “dancing”. To me, some portions of the routines were highly suggestive. The issue was the venue. A football game halftime show. Some of those moves, I would not want my 4 or 8 year old granddaughters emulating. I can just about bet they saw the show as the Super Bowl is a big deal in their house and the girls love dancing. My wife didn’t think it was appropriate and neither did I. Yes, there are worse things out there but what has that got to do with anything?

It’s become just plain sad that you could let your kids watch the game, but you feel compelled to send them out of the room for the halftime show.
Anyone remember a day when kids could watch the entire event?!??!?!
What was wrong with that concept?

Good arguments on both sides. I just don't think "twerking" is suitable family entertainment. I would rather see and hear good music done well. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Maybe they should have just shown the ladies from the waist up, like Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show back in '56.

I just watched it again, scrolling through quickly. Not a fan of that music, but honestly can't see what all the contempt is, the only questionable moment imo was when some guy faked patting JLo's butt for a few seconds [he didn't even touch her]

My mom once told me she recalled my Polish grandfather yelling "świnia!"(pig) at the TV when Elvis performed. Lol.

I raised 2 boys and have a 3 year old granddaughter who's very mimicking. I wouldn't be happy to see her mimicking these "dance moves" from the sound of it. Not stodgy, just don't need to see a 3 year old pole dancin'.
