I'd bet that most of us who found it offensive have raised or are raising kids. This

I have 2 sons and 5 Grandkids that range in age from 19 yrs old to 9 months. Not offensive to me. I guess we have a different perspective.

Well I guess they got the publicity they were looking for, everyone's talking about it.

Wasn’t it Madonna who once said, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.” ?

Maybe I'd feel differently if I had kids but I was OK with it.
I'm bothered much more by the impression that "reality" programming must leave on kids. That horrible trash is all planned out and scripted but it is presented as if it's not. Kids may perceive it as being OK for adults to behave like that. I think it is doing serious damage.

I do have kids and grandkids and am from a generation where you couldn't even show pregnant women on TV, nor say the word pregnant...Lucy and Ricky (I Love Lucy) slept in separate single beds...The FCC made it literally a federal case if you uttered profanity on radio or TV. Slowly the level of violence and provocative language and situations increased through the years to the point that our threshold for such things has been lowered to the point of "ho hum" status. Only problem is that it has also managed to have negative effects on society in general. In my lifetime I've seen pretty much everything... having had careers not only in and around the music business, but also in the military as well;hardly endeavors where one wouldn't expect to be exposed to the extremes of human behavior, certainly not cut out for the prudish...Call me old fashioned...I revel in that. I found the halftime show to be disgusting and totally inappropriate for a general audience...and the NFL sanctioned this? Not surprising.

The NFL also would not air a pro 2nd amendment commercial.

Mike, those Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders are heroes in my eyes. When I was stuck in a remote outpost in Korea near the DMZ back in 1988 the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders came to our compound and performed for us. This meant a lot because we were away from our families, wives and girlfriends and it gets depressing around the holidays. So they are special in my eyes.

So, Jennifer Lopez must be too, since she has performed for the USO.

I don’t remember seeing any cheerleaders, last night.
Were they there?

I also point out the hypocrisy of the fact that these ladies are being called a bad example for children, yet last year when Adam Levine stripped off his shirt and paraded himself around at last year’s halftime while all the ladies screamed, nobody said a word.

Compare that one to the late Tom Petty's performance. One all prefab style with no substance, one all substance with style to boot.

Tom Petty is a musician, Shakira and JLo are "performers." To me, the most offensive part was when Shakira was holding, playing, whatever a guitar... Shakira's guitar

The last halftime show I watched was the Stones. They phoned it in. When halftime comes I go in the other room.
I did look at some interwebs copies of the show and, offended? nope. Bad taste, maybe.
Hell I though the Janet Jackson outrage was over the top.
But It takes a lot to offend me

I recall John Lennon making some dopey comment about the mission of art is to irritate. This was an explanation (excuse?) for Yoko.
So here we have a bunch of dialog post superbowl about the virtues and evils of that performance. Mission Accomplished. I guess.

It was no secret that J-Lo and Shakira were the halftime entertainment. What did you expect to see -- both of them riding in on a float with a college marching band?
This is what they do and I actually think they are both very talented -- Shakira more than J-Lo. I'm rarely offended and this didn't even register on the old outrage meter. I was more offended by the dimwits in the pregame babblefest.

But again, and to play contrarian (I didn't watch cuz it ain't my bag), would you want your 3 year old grand daughter mimicking pelvic thrusts and crotch grabs (and not because she has to go pee pee)? The reality is if this kind of stuff bugs you and you wish to protect small children from behavior that'll certainly make you uncomfortable when they act it out at the grocery store, then it's more than sheltering them from a halftime show. This kind of stuff is now mainstream, not late night, not "ooh, did you see Andy Sipowicz's butt last night on NYPD Blue?". I think you essentially need to toss the TV and all electronic devices and move to Wyoming and home school your kids. And I'm ok with that. There isn't a lot of life value in the cheap and noisy world of popular culture.

^^ I don't disagree. My oldest grand daughter is five. She has picked up some nasty behaviors since she started going to pre school. She certainly didn't learn it from watching a SB Halftime show. I corrected her when she first did the things at my house so she's more careful around me. I know my daughter and SIL won't stand for this at their home. She learned this crap in a pre school class with four and five year olds. There is no point in trying to protect the kids from gross behavior, all we can do is make sure they know that it is not acceptable for them to mimic it.

There is every reason to try to protect them from these behaviors. You can’t unring the bell. True, you can’t control 100% of what they see/hear once they are of an age where they spend time away from you. But it doesn’t mean you give up doing the right thing.

I was offended by the bad music and old ladies on stage trying to shake what they ain't got no more.
Just kidding I didn't watch it.
The 4th quarter of the game was good, particularly the time after all the niners rallied for a photo in the endzone while up 20-10..
