Bought a 2016 SG Standard last Friday off EBay reportedly in Excellent Shape with 30 day return. From photos it looks really good! Cannot wait to get this guitar

My brother, who went through almost every guitar model played by the Beatles (mainly George), once brought his SG to our annual family jam.
Of all the guitars he ever played, the SG had the best sound. Great guitar!

VERY cool, LTB. The SG I have, to me, is a lot like a Les Paul and a Telecaster had a love child: like a Tele, it has a huge palette of tones, is light in weight and very comfy to play, and like a Les Paul it can roar when you need it to. Here's a dead-simple way to post pics here: 1. Click here to go to imgbb ...no account needed, no sign-in required. Bookmark this page for later use. 2. Click on 'browse from your computer' link in the center of the screen. 3. Navigate to the image on your local machine and double click it. 4. Click the green 'Upload' button. 5. "Upload complete" will be displayed. Double click the little image. It opens to full size. 6. Right click on the image. Left click on 'Copy Image Location'. You can now paste the URL into a message using the Insert Image button. If you don't see those buttons, click the RED "Reply" button at the upper right of the Quick Reply box down below when replying to a thread. This is the Insert Image button:

They post ads for their commercial sponsors. But as an anonymous user, you (and I) don't see this stuff. You can sign up for an account--it's free--and that allows you depth of functionality to create folders, etc., to help you catalog and manage your images. The account holders (regular users) are the folks that get the pop-up ads.
I do not stick anything on any hosting service (or a message board like this) that I consider private or privileged information.
And just so you know, that little button to the right of the Insert Image Button that resembles a film production clapper board is the Insert Video Link button. You can post a video in a thread by using that button and pasting the video's Yootoob URL into the box. Like this:

Received my (new to me) 2016 Gibson SG Standard Thursday afternoon. It is in Excellent condition. Only blip is a slight strap rash on back strap button that I can probably polish out. Next is straight, Action low, No electronic issues. Just had to make slight intonation tweaks and tune up. I think I will love it. Unlike the 2016 Gibson Faded model I had Fret sprout to remove will not be an issue here due to the neck binding. Gibson SG Standard

very nice. Aren't they a great looking instrument! Yes, I never thought I would have an SG Standard. Found this one and couldn't turn it down. I have a nice Brown Gibson SG case I purchased new in 2017 for my 2016 Gibson SG Faded model that I am going to use for this guitar. I know compared to most of you my collection is not very big but my wife thinks I have too many instruments between Acoustic, Electric, 3 basses. I will not let my basses or the 1979 F-349 Takamine Acoustic that belonged to my mom go. I bought the 2016 Faded new and like it. Compared to the Standard's gloss finish the Satin finish (doesn't show finger smudges) of the Faded is easier to take care of. Is there any program I can put my wife through that changes their brain to love many instruments??? LOL

Nice guitar. An SG has to be red, or some shade thereof.

I have a faded brown SG. I bought it because it was a NOS deal and I wanted one with 'buckers (490s). It was probably such a deal because of the color.

leftee, I like walnut color. I bought a new Gibson EB-0 walnut bass in 1974. They now call them SG basses. I loved the looks and feel but having only the large “Mudbucker” pickup it lived up to its name and I sold it within 6 months

I love SG tones but have never owned one. My son had one and eventually sold it because it was too neck-heavy.

I love SG tones but have never owned one. My son had one and eventually sold it because it was too neck-heavy. I have heard that so many times but I can't see that. Probably because I hold my instruments 30 degrees upward when I play. I have never understood why so many choose to hold theirs exactly horizontal. For me it is not as easy to play held horizontally and doesn't feel natural. Always thought people just worked at it until they got used to it because they thought it looked cooler.

The SG is also one of the best looking designs of a guitar, ever! Let us know how you like it! I absolutely love it. The previous owner had the pickups adjusted way too high, especially the neck pickup. I lowered the bridge pickup about 1/4" and the Neck pickup even with the body as it was too dark sounding. The bridge pickup has good output (498T alnico 5) and the neck is wound at about 8.3K and Alnico II. Love the binding on the neck as I will not have to worry about fret sprout. Neck is really straight, action really low with no buzzing, nut is decent (only the B at 1st fret is just barely sharp when pressed but will deal with that later. The Gibson tuners are really good and smooth (with translucent plastic keys). At the recommendation of another forum (EverythingSG) I put a new set of Kluson 19:1 Locking tuners on it. They are nice and easy to string but Frankly I don't see a big difference from the stock 14:1 Gibson's in being much finer adjustment of tuning but they are smooth and tight (not wobbly) just like the Gibson's that came on the guitar. Frets are in great shape and other than the slight sharp on the B at the 1st fret ALL Strings intonate really well up and down the fretboard (at least to the 12th fret).

I like the Bigsby B-5 with Chet Atkins arm (and vibramate adapter so it is not screwed to the body) so I have ordered one for this SG Standard model. I was using Nickel wound 11-52 strings but recently tried D'Addario 10-52 Nickel wounds and love them. I know many prefer 10-46 but I like the fatter lows of the 5th and 6th strings.

Maybe they were meant to be Walnut-like. Those original Worn Faded Brown SG’s from the early 2000’s were great guitars for the money. Used to be available on eBAY used for about $400, last time aI checked they seemed to be fetching around $550.

ltb, you will thoroughly love your SG. I also don't see the "neck heavy" issue many have commented on. Here is a picture of my two. The one in front is an 2006 Historic and the 2012 SG Jr in the background. The Jr is really light......trying to remember....either mid 5 or 6lb. Fit and finish is superb. When strumming unplugged, the Jr vibrates and rings louder than the Historic. I apologize for the picture above without comment, I was following the instructions on how to post photos and somehow the photos was posted before I had a chance to add commentary.
