It is so hard to be patient and wait to find out how the hero some how makes it all good and right in the end. I have absolute confidence that in my favorite shows and in your project updates, the hero will make everything turn out fabulously, but the waiting on the edge of my seat is excruciating!! And now I have two of your topic threads that I am following with bated breath!!!!! Yep, his posts range from informative to comedical but never boring

So these sorts of guitars not only allow me to be creative and succeed or fail, they also allow me to tweak to my heart's content until I think it's done. It may never be done. These no holds barred projects are like that. It's not unlike my 67 Camaro (among other projects) ... They are never really done. Sometimes my projects stay as they are simply because my attention has been diverted. This particular project of yours is really nice to watch with all of it's uncommon characteristics.

Cheers, y'all! Thanks to the miracle of quick-dry lacquer, here's the almost-finished update to this thing. All the parts are together and it has a basic setup; all it needs is a week to relax and settle in, and I'll tweak the setup. I like the sound and response much better now. I direct-mounted the Gretsch pickup in the rout and made a new pickup surround with pearl moto like the original one. I think wrnchbndr is right about using the pearl...the tort looks classier and more subdued, but this guitar is a weird shape and it should have some zing. I swapped in black tuners for the original chrome units; I did this to balance out the black fingerboard, but I don't know yet if I like these over the chrome. That may change. This is the mod I did to the back; I routed a cove in the front corner of the tuner recess to fit the fingers in there a bit better, and it works as expected. I have not yet stuck a 2020 penny in there yet to mark the production year, but that will happen after the final setup. It weighs in at 4.6 lbs...just a shade heavier due to the chunky little pickup. So far, I like it.

Great upgrades! The slightly altered shape of the pick up surround echoes the body shape nicely, and the expanded tuner recess with the black tuners is really well done. I got to tell you Peegoo, this is the first guitar without a headstock that I've found appealing.
I effin' hate you, man!
