So I put 250 rounds through the AR last weekend.
What a great firearm. No malfunctions shooting 5.56 NATO FMJ. Got my flip up iron sights dialed in and by the end was getting most rounds of a 30 rnd mag on an 8 inch shoot and see target, with grouping still slightly low to the right at 50 yards. Not great obviously but first time shooting and with iron sights..
Releasing an open bolt on the AR with a new mag chambering a FMJ round makes one of the best mechanical sounds I've ever heard.
Also realizing after putting another couple hundred rounds through the G17 that I don't like shooting it as much as I used to.. my buddy had a Ruger in .45 ACP with a single stack mag and I found it much more comfortable. Need to try out either a lightweight commander style 1911 or the Sig P365 and will probably trade in the Glock. I've always much preferred shooting rifles anyway and will use the AR for home defense from here on out so not a big need for a full size handgun.

One might say we’re obliged to keep it alive.

It is "Obligatory" after all. Also a fitting and ongoing tribute to MJB.

I have only shot my AR once. After I got the red dot sighted in at 25 yards (max yardage at the indoor range) It was a "blast". Ammo a bit expensive so had to wait a bit. I plan on another trip soon

I plan on another trip soon I was trained in the military on the 1911 .45, at Fort Gordon, GA. As this was in 1968, ammo was considered too precious to waste on trainees, it was shipped to Vietnam instead. Consequently, we were trained like this: with the hammer on the empty .45 Chickened, drop a sharpened pencil down the barrel, eraser end against the firing pin. Holding the weapon at arms length and lining up the sights as shown in the class, pull the trigger, sending the sharpened pencil forward to strike a paper target a few inches from the muzzle. We fired live ammo on one occasion only: on qualification day. Not sure LTB's AR could successfully use the "alternative to ammo" technique.

I know people who use laser training aids. I’ve personally tried using Airsoft, and am considering getting a green gas powered (i.e. with a blowback slide that cycles) Glock replica for at-home trigger time.

When I got my NH drivers license back in the spring I had to sign a paper promising I would buy either a SIG or Ruger firearm within my first year of residency. (That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.) I live about a half hour away from the SIG Academy, and a few weeks ago they had a demo test fire event. I’m a Glock guy, but the P320 and (especially) P365 have attracted my attention. One of the guns I demoed was so impressive and their event pricing was so good, one followed me home - literally, since NH is instant check. This will be a range gun, not for defensive use. It’s unusual in that the polymer frame is infused with tungsten, so the weight is similar to a 5” 1911 - which makes it a real powderpuff in 9mm. I’ll probably add a red dot sight keeping in the spirit of a modern range gun - I may even start competing again. I also picked up a second normal weight Wilson Combat grip frame. www.sigsauer.com/p320-xfive-legion.html

Sigs are muy nice! Congrats! I love my Sig P320 Carry. Easily my most accurate and fun to shoot It came with a separate Sig Red Dot in addition to night sights, however I love shooting with the night sights

Sigs are muy nice! Congrats! Love mine, but I'm a traditionalist - I want hammer and usual layout. My 226s have NEVER let me down. My 'made for me' Sig 1911 GSR (no rail, ironically), from when we were one of the first Sig dealers in the country when they went direct (I joined before it was even publicly announced) is pound for pound no holds barred the best 1911 I've ever used.

My 226s have NEVER let me down. I had always meant to pick up a Sig 226 or maybe a 229. It's probably a good time to thin the herd -- been thinking of trading in my Beretta 92FS and my G17 and probably some cash for one of the Sigs. I haven't been to my LGS since the Corvid -- I think I'll drop by this weekend and see what kind of deal I can get.

Went to the indoor range Friday morning and shot my AR-15 for the 2nd time in over 3 months. I put a CMT Flat trigger in it with a 2.5 lbs pull.

Was doing my periodic check safe and oil things, and cleaned off the monster. You DO NOT see these every day, unless you watch "Total Recall" a lot.

So, I've been considering a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 2.0 (or M&P 2.0 9, I dunno which way it's supposed to go, but it's this one: link) for quite a while. I've read and seen lots of very positive reviews, especially one by Colion Noir, who's opinions I've come to respect. After reading this entire thread, though, it occurs to me that I really should look at some other options. I'm intrigued by HD's new Sig and Mike's H&K. If it helps, here's what I think I'm looking for: 1. 9MM 2. 13+ round capacity 3. 4-5 inch barrel 4. striker fired (not critical) 5. polymer construction (not critical) 6. $600 or less I've owned quite a few firearms, but never an automatic handgun if that helps. So, given the vast wealth of firearms knowledge here at MT 2.0, I thought that perhaps folks might be so kind as to offer some suggestions. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you might care to offer!

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you might care to offer! Go to a local range that rents firearms. Try each of the weapons you are interested in. One or two will stand out and that is when you decide. I like 1911's.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you might care to offer! I had the M&P 2.0 9mm in 5” barrel and recommend the 4” model. I had accuracy issues that I do not have with 4” semi autos. I am sure some do not have issues with 5” barrels but this is my experience. I think it had much to do with my ability to hold it steady
