I still have the stock tubes in my Bassbreaker. I've had it for about a year. I really like the amp, sounds great but there is a little bit of hiss that is noticeable when idling. Wondering if anyone has changed preamp tubes and gotten any benefit of less hiss/noise?
Thanks for any and all feedback.

An amp has to be pretty neglected, obviously in a bad way, for replacement of all, or a tranche, of tubes to be necessary. ie if there’s a problem that’s tube related, it’s most likely to just be one tube, rather than 2 or more. Just need 1 ‘known good’ spare of each type that your amp uses, if it uses a push pull pair or quad of power tubes, then best to have a spare pair of power tubes that idle at fairly similar plate / cathode currents. Then, anytime a tube related problem is suspected, go through the amp swapping the spare into each socket in turn, checking for the issue each time. If no improvement, replace the original tube and move on to the next socket. With fixed bias power amps and their tubes, it’s a very good idea to check that the bias is appropriate for each set of tubes that are in it, and adjust it if necessary.

Thanks pdf64, I suspect it is more in the amp design than the tubes, but was just putting out feelers to see if anyone had noticed any improvement in background noise by replacing one or more preamp tubes. Sometimes manufactures will advertise certain tubes as being quieter... My Bassbreaker's background hiss is really very minimal and only really noticeable when close to the speaker. having said that, it is louder than my other amps. i.e. Deluxe Reverb, Blues Jr. 68 Princeton Custom and even my lowly Marshal DSL15
