The first recording personality I think I may have heard was Lonnie Mack when "Memphis" was a hit back in '63. It's hard to remember as a friend was the promoter that brought Lonnie to town but he also brought Betty Everett, Jerry Butler and some of the great Chicago R&B artists in around that same time and after 50+ years you begin to forget the sequence of performers.

Man, I smoked too much weed when I was young- I can't rightly remember!
If it counts, I think my parents took me to a folk festival of sorts in the late 60s / early 70s in Toronto. The nitty gritty dirt band were there, I think, and maybe sha na na, etc.
I saw lots of concerts growing up in Toronto in the 70s and early 80s, but don't ask me to put them in order!

1st concert was with my family and it was Dallas Holm and Praise.
1st concert without the parents and on my own would have been RUSH with Tommy Shaw opening in Shreveport.

Neil Young was the headliner and Linda Ronstadt was the opening act. It was 1972 or 73, shortly after the release of Harvest. I was 13 or 14 at the time.
I'm sure I lied to my parents about where I was going that night because I know they would have never allowed me to attend. It was a great show.

The Beatles, in Memphis TN. Mid-South Coliseum. August 19, 1966.
Brag, brag, brag. I saw the Beatles.
Unless you count George Beverly Shea singing in a Billy Graham Crusade in 1951, State Fair Stadium, Shreveport, Louisiana. All I can remember is a man with blond hair speaking animatedly into a microphone down in the playing field. I don't remember Bev Shea at all.

Iron Butterfly, supporting In-a-Gadda-da-Vida back in 1968. Believe it or not, it was a church youth group outing.

Jackson Browne at the Music Hall in Omaha, 1971. Phoebe Snow opened.
And 29 years later I went to see him again at the same place. Ended up talking to him backstage before the show, and mentioned that I had seen him there back in '71. "Really? I've been here before?" he said. He got a kick out of that.

Man, there are some geezers on this site, for sure! Makes me feel like a baby at the tender age of 61. My first was Deep Purple in'74. Tucky Buzzard and Savoy Brown opened. My ears rang for days.

I had to look up the date but it was March 19, 1972 at the St. Paul Auditorium. Fleetwood Mac, Savoy Brown and Long John Baldry. I consider that to be my first actual concert. I had already seen many great bands at the Young America Center of the MN State Fair by that time but I don't consider those to be concerts.

No, I'm certain that there were more than 2 acts, but that was a long time ago and I don't remember who else played.
