Just wondering where most people sit in this. I know it started as a Fender forum, but most people kind of rag on Fender as being elitist, past prime, etc. Do you consider this Fender based, or a guitar forum with general banter and gun reviews? I go to a lot of forums, even though forums are out of favor, but always looking for experience, wisdom, etc. What do you look for here? Edited to add...this is not a confrontational post, just wondering what people use this for. I look for guitar oriented news, some general stuff

Well, it is defined up top as: "A Guitar Forum" most people kind of rag on Fender as being elitist, past prime, etc. This I guess I did know. I find Moe's to be a gathering point for a group of people having a common interest in music, instruments and playing. Additionally, at this point most of whom have been together long enough to feel some comradery and mutual respect with and for one another.

I've never considered this (version of the) forum to be Fender-centric.. lots of us own Gibson's and probably every other make you can think of.
Plus there's quite a few here that are approaching the Senior Discount Age and already have all the gear they would likely ever need.
So it's obviously the gun reviews.

I didn't change, Fender left me (discontinuing the strings I used for decades, going for the Disney Store market).
Last guitars I bought (and I haven't needed any more) have all been Gibsons!

And for the record, I haven't bought a gun since 2008! Then again, the last one was a doozy (with my last rat, now gone to the cheese wheel in the sky):

Everything on page one of Moe's, the Instrument Workshop, the Recording Forum and anything in between. I don't look at MT2 as a "Fender Forum". It's an oasis of familiar names with some commonality.

For me it's mostly a force of habit by now. My one and only regular forum. I don't even post that often, but I check in pretty much daily at least.

I come here because I constantly find interesting music, tech tips, humor, and insights. Plus many of you were a lifeline to civilization for me back in the bad old days. That holds true even today.

I could have cared less about the Fender part of the old place. It has always been about the people for me. A community of respectful and like-minded people with a common interest.

It's pretty much an ego-free zone. You will all know how rare that is now.
Almost everywhere else, I find a significant proportion of the populace somehow convinced that their personal thoughts are facts.

I joined back in 1999 when I purchased my second Fender, a USA made Telecaster. I had the Precision Bass since 1981. I played the Concert bass in 1961, Christmas of 1962 I got my first bass, we were in Germany at the time, my first bass, was the Framus. The only other option I had was the Hoftner, the one Paul McCartney played, I still have the Framus and it works just fine. I didn’t like the Hoftner it had terrible neck dive. I wasn’t a Beatles fan any ways. We covered a lot of Motown, Jimi Hendrix
It was the purchase of the Tele that led me the FDP, to learn more about the Tele. The FDP was pretty tight, we had a group that got together in Delray FL for jams. We had FDP’ers come from as far away as the footlhills of the Hymilaians, Deep showed up at one, Dolimite was usually the host.
I don’t play the Tele too much, most of my guitar playing is on the Cordoba C9. Same kind of deal with the Ibanez PNB14E acoustic/electric bass. Serious rehearsals, and gigs I use the ‘81 Precision or the Guild Starfire. The number of times I’ve played the guitar on stage, it has always been Acoustic and solo, and less than a hand full of times.

Gear-wise most of my inventory is comprised of Strat and Tele builds, a highly modded Jazz bass and a Princeton Reverb II. Over the years the good folks at the Instrument side of the forums have helped me out countless times. When I refer to this place to my wife I call it "the Fender forum" for simplicity sake.
Ninworks, Roly and others have helped/inspired me a ton with recording workflow and gear issues.

Some of us have known each other for going on 20 years now, despite--in some cases--never having met.
We all have things in common, but we all see the world from our own shoes.
I come here to be completely inundated with your [the reader of this post] vision of the world. Not because I'm voyeuristic or lead a boring life, but because my narrow view of reality is a sorely incomplete representation of how the world actually works.
And I do appreciate everyone's contributions here.
Thanks especially to Mike, our Lead Giraffe Wrangler for keeping the lights on.
Cheers to all,
Geno

We’ve no association with Fender or any other brand. Honestly, I signed up at the old place in 2007, and there wasn’t really any Fender affiliation over there during the entire time I was there, it was all before.
I found the old place looking for info on my 1978 Stratocaster. If not for Fender, I probably wouldn’t have found it. I assume many others are in the same boat. As a result I am sure we have a lot of Fender fans who own a lot of Fender instruments.
There are two more instruments I want, and one is a Fender. The other is a Gibson. I barely play anymore and will likely never buy either one.
But this place continues because we’re like minded in that we’re musicians. On other issues, we’re not like minded at all. That keeps it interesting, for me anyway.
This forum exists solely because of the strength of its members. Fender doesn’t keep us here. Financial arrangements don’t keep us here. We’re here, operating for free, for as long as the membership cares to be here.

MT2 is the anti-"social media": everything bad that that there is, this here ain't.

I’m one of the long-time members. I joined the FDP because I love Fender guitars and amps, although I own Gibson, Dean, and Gretch electrics. I was coming off a twenty-year hiatus from playing and lucked onto the site. For the most part, everything I know about guitars and amps came from, or at least started there. I’m still good friends with BobtheNuke, whom I met early on. We both loved Jazzmasters and Jaguars. Transitioning to MT2 was a no brainer because y’all still tolerate me. I’m here for the non-confrontational repartee and friendship. This is the only forum that stuck and, somewhere along the way, I became a decent guitar player too!

not a fender based place. I was a member of the old forum. Here I just enjoy the banter of the members. Don't always agree with everyone, but respect their views etc. Also a lot of life wisdom in our members. Love that people share their experiences so openly, and share their support when a member needs it. Also enjoy getting a glimpse of life in other parts of our great nation. Great humor and of course the Giraffes.

There are two more instruments I want, and one is a Fender. The other is a Gibson. I barely play anymore and will likely never buy either one. Please don't let that happen. I know a lot of players, more talented than me that stopped playing, sold all their gear. For me, it's like part of my identity or who I am, I don't understand that.
