Growing up in the Detroit area, for years I thought the Beach Boys "Sail on Sailor" was a Stevie Wonder song. Great song. What songs/artists has this happened with you?

I heard that alot of people thought A Horse With No Name was a Neil Young song. The vocals kinda sound like him, but definitely not the music.

Story goes that when "Horse With No Name" hit number one, Neil Young's dad called him to congratulate him.
The melody sounds just a little like the Neil's guitar solo in "Down By The River."

For the longest time, I thought Badfinger's Baby Blue was Cream.

First time I heard Badfinger's tune Come and Get It, I thought it was the Beatles.

That's another one from them, Geno. I thought it was Manfred Mann.

See, that's the good thing about Slim Whitman: when you hear one of his songs, you know it's him.

See, that's the good thing about Slim Whitman: when you hear one of his songs, you know it's him. Plus, it runs off the attacking Martians.

I thought "Reflections of My Life" by The Marmalade was The Hollies. Listening now the lead vocal not so much but when the harmonies kick in, yeah.

Almost any Steve Miller song, with an actual good song. Ok, that was harsh, sorry.

I Like to Rock, by April Wine.
I thought it was Sammy Hagar. It sounds like the Montrose-era Sam:
Another one is Never Met a Girl Like You Before, by Edwin Collins. I heard it and thought it was Bowie:
Another more recent one is One by Arctic Monkeys. It sounds exactly like Bowie:

Always loved the mash-up of Day Tripper and I Can't Get No Satisfaction on the April Wine song.

Here's another one. Can't You See That She's Mine, by The Dave Clark 5. Sounds almost exactly like I Saw Her Standing There by the Fab Four. This is true for a whole bunch of DC5 tunes.
Clark was the drummer. I cannot help but wonder if Ringo secretly wished he had started a band and called it The Richard Starkey Four.

Here's a new tune that came on the radio a few weeks ago and I thought it was Paul Simon. Same vocal style and quality.
While I'm at it, there's another tune they've been playing (it came out the end of last year) that sounded like Natalie Merchant. I'm a fan of the 10,000 Maniacs stuff from the 80s, and we went to see the band play a few years ago. Natalie Merchant is no longer with the band, and the music sounded nothing like the original stuff without her. So if things don't work out for Basia Bulat (the gal in this vid), she has a good shot at kicking that other chick out of 'The New' 10,000 Maniacs. It sounds like she's trying to sing like Natalie.
