Before clicking, I thought "Geddy Lee."
There was a similar thread on the old FDP a number of years ago. Geddy "won."
Before that, there was a young lady who regularly posted under the name "Lauralovesgeddy." She disappeared shortly after that thread appeared.

^ good one Dylan, Springsteen [Born In The USA is an ice pick to the ear] I hate both of them. Especially Bruce, who sings like he needs more fiber in his diet. Stop pushing, it'll come out when its ready!!

I know geddy lee gets alot of hate, but I often wonder how many people haven't heard anything he's sung since 1979 or so.. He hasn't done the high, screechy thing since the 70s. His voice become much more mild around 1981.

Geddy is good by me. For some reason I don't like listening to Joe Chickener sing.

I have a hard time with folks like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. They have great talent and deep skill, to be sure, but I just don't connect. I think it has more to do with the genres than the singers, though.

Vocal stylists, such as Mariah Carey, who try to get as many different notes as possible into a single syllable.

SO hard t'choose just one: •Ethyl Merman •Tiny Tim •Wayne Newton •Tommy James •Donovan Leitch
•Pick any current, warbling Diva
And I can listen to Captain Beefheart or Tuvan Throat Singers all day long, so it's not like I'm some kind of vocal atrocity bigot...

Johnny Mathis, Bono, and I'll give Springsteen an honorable mention. They are all one trick ponies and that trick ain't that great.
Jagger on the other hand, can sing anything.

GEDDY LEE!!!!OMG!!!! How about you? This guy. Go ahead listen. I double dog dare ya. Yeah, David Surkamp gets really up there. You old FDP'ers realize that RickS (?) from the old days was the bass player for Pavlov's Dog, right? My least favorite singers? Billy Corgan Bob Dylan Kevin Dubrow Vince Neil (he's lost what little he had at this point) Patti Smith the guy from Modest Mouse (I will flip the radio station in the car before the first line ever gets completed) ...and more that I can't recall right now.

I have no problem with Geddy, even at his "screechiest" ;-)
Before I opened this thread I expected to see Dylan, Plant, possibly even Neil Young, but I like all of them. In fact there aren't many singers I can't stand, even if they're not technically perfect. I prefer "soul", "feel" and honest emotion over vocal histrionics any day. That said I'm not a fan of overly "affected" vocal styles, and Steve Harley, (some) Bowie, and the awful Bryan Ferry fall into that category for me.

I would listen to almost any Dylan or Springsteen album on repeat for eternity vs a shuffle-playlist of every top 40 song of the past 10 years.
I'll say Adele. People love her, my wife included.
She bellows. A lot. It's annoying.

Don't think I did.

Period.

"Jimmy Dale Gilmore"
Yeah, his vocal affectations make him a chore to listen to. Same goes for Malford Milligan. YMMV.
"Billy Corgan."
What if That Guy from Smashing Pumpkins lost his car keys?
Note: NSFW...there's a single F-bomb here.

The only ones that I know by name are Alanis Morissette and Axl Rose.
Most of the singers I don't like, I don't bother to get their names.
There is an R&B ballad singing style that came up for a while, young male singers, very "sensitive" whiny tone with a lot of meandering notes. I don't know if there is a term for the style but I can't stand it. Don't hear it as much as I used to a few years ago (thank God!)

I've never heard the below vocalist but it's a demonstration of the dopiest trend of vocal affectation and it's everywhere. Commercials, soundtracks, mainstream Indie...she has a pleasant enough voice, she doesn't need to sound like Adam Sandler with a head trauma. Stop it. STOP IT!

Questions about Julia Stone:
•Is that some sort of feather cape, or are those actually growing out of her?
•Is she a toddler, or have her vocal chords been stunted by a 2-pack/day habit? (She does sound a bit like an out-of-breath baby)
•Is the catchy little refrain she sings, "bow-wow, bow-wow"? I want to make sure I have it right.
•Anyone else start having some real trouble keeping their head from exploding @ about 4:20?

I couldn't name one AC/DC song if I tried as I'm not a fan of arena rock or any rock any more, I'm just burnt out with it. However the vocals on songs by AC/DC would always prohibit me from listening further.
