I’m going to say it...... I know he’s revered as influencing the punk movement and all , but , Iggy Pop ! And put your damn shirt on for crying out loud. You’re in your 70s and you don’t look good anymore!

"•Anyone else start having some real trouble keeping their head from exploding @ about 4:20?"
My question is this: how the hell did you make it that far into the tune?
I am also not a fan of that breathy, weak, semi-conscious-female-heroin-addict vocal delivery. One band that's kinda big on that vibe is Feist. Very few things (including the Kars for Kids song) make be reach for the radio faster than this stuff.

I've never heard the below vocalist but it's a demonstration of the dopiest trend of vocal affectation and it's everywhere. Commercials, soundtracks, mainstream Indie...she has a pleasant enough voice, she doesn't need to sound like Adam Sandler with a head trauma. Stop it. STOP IT! Ummm, thanks for posting that! I really like it. I think I’m a fan now. I like soft voices. I don’t like hard belters like Adele or Celine Dion. Some people love them. But to me if they did a duet it would be like two cats caught in a fan belt.

Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.

I'll have to go with Christopher Cross. I turn the radio down every time he comes on.

Wow I didn't even make the one minute mark on the Julia Stone vid. Reminded me of Yoko Ono in a way. Cher is another one I can't stand.

Don't know any of their names, but any of the death metal singers who sing like they're channeling the devil himself. Runner up are any pop diva's who have to sneak up on every note they sing.

The dude from Nickelback (and his ilk--which includes other rockers as well as many so-called 'country' singers). That vocal quality, combined with the ubiquitous Autotune and long-held notes, sounds to me like puking. Ew.

Put Eddie Vedder at the top of that list. The dude should be banned from singing for life after his butchering of Last Kiss.

Another vote for Axl Rose...I could handle some of the early stuff but when GnR had the reunion a couple years ago, he had no range and couldn't sing in key.
However I have no problem with Geddy, huge Rush fan, and he did tone it down in the mid 80s.

There are so many, for me, I’m not going to bother trying to type them all in. And, they aren’t necessarily bad singers, I just don’t connect with them. And as mentioned, it might be the genre.

Good way of describing that phenomenon...er...affliction...
And, yes: Axl Rose, who, to make matters worse, squirms compulsively as though he's trying to get out of his own skin the whole time that...sound...is coming out of his pie hole.

Singing ruins good music with few exceptions.
Dylan .. His singing was one of the few things he did not plagiarize. Neil Young Bill Monroe Julia Stone and every other wispy, self absorbed, never ending, celestial drivel spewing new-age cretin. BTW she can't play the concertina.

Wow, tough crowd!
(Insert smiley face)
If not for Neil Young and Bob Dylan and a couple others, I would have never set foot on the stage of the local open mic. I always say to myself "Hey, I sing better than those guys and they're famous!" and then I get up there and do it.

"I like soft voices."
Me too. What makes my head fold in half is the articulation, that sounds part made up accent and part brain damage. I know this artist is from Australia, but this is a 'thing' in this genre of music by female vocalists worldwide. It's an offshoot of yarling, the female version. Thanks Alanis.

A fine collection of song stylists so far. I would like to add four more to the list. First, how did anyone over look Dennis DeYoung? Then there's the last two guys from Journey. And finally, brace yourselves, Brad Delp. Yeah I know he was St. Brad, but I just cringe whenever I hear Boston.
Thanks for listening.

Don't confuse Bon Scott, orig AC/DC vocalist, with Brian Johnson who took up with them in 1980 after Bon died. I've always vastly preferred Bon's vocals. (eg. 'Whole Lotta Rosie.') To me Brian sings like someone's painfully squeezing his nads. (eg. 'Back in Black')

^ good one Dylan, Springsteen [Born In The USA is an ice pick to the ear] I hate both of them. Especially Bruce, who sings like he needs more fiber in his diet. Stop pushing, it'll come out when its ready!! lol!....I should know better than to have a mouth full of anything while reading comments here
