Back in the day I plugged my LP into a Bassman 50 and a Sunn monitor with a passive volume control on it. I turned the monitor way down and the amp way up. It sounded great. On another occasion i was at a jam and had to use a Kustom bass amp for guitar (same LP) and it sounded really good too, once you opened it up. It was loud. I have hear that early Marshall amps were based on Fender bass amp circuits. I guess I was just wrong all these years. Should just bought old bass amps. Ever try it ?

I've owned a Victoria Bassman. Just about the perfect guitar amp.

I’ve got a couple SF Bassman heads - both ‘67s. Yep! They are all that.
The original Marshalls were an answer to the market, in the UK. Players wanted Fenders, but they were too expensive being that they had to be imported.
The rest is history. 😎

Back in the early to mid 1970's a friend had an Ampeg V-4 with 2 4x10 cabs. It was a volume monster, however he turned to his Mid 60's Blackface Fender Bassman (50 watt 2x12) for his guitar. I would use the Ampeg with 1 cab for bass in 1974 in a band we were in. So yeah, they were better guitar amps than a bass amp.

When I sold off my old Bassman Four 10 guitar guys lined up for it. Being a bass player I wasn’t happy with the bass amps until I came across an old Acoustic that worked well, then in the early 80s the SWR Studio 220, which I still use in the studio.
The only guitar amp I have is an old Vibro Champ. My acoustic guitars sound great through any of my bass amps but usually I use the Fender Rumble 40.

I have two Genz-Benz 10 inch Shuttles and two Genz-Benz 8 inch Shuttles. I live in an apartment. The 10 inch Shuttles are surprisingly good with my Telecasters aside being a fun practice amp for bass. Where they really shine is when I use them for electric fiddle. Great sound, lots of fun!

I have a Gallien Kreuger MB200 1x12 combo that's a great little bass amp. It also sounds fantastic when paired with a guitar and pedalboard. And it's super lightweight. If you're looking for a small portable rig with more power than you'll ever need, and you get your sounds from pedals or a multi-effect floor board, you should try this and see if it's the thing for you.

In the late '60s-early '70s I sometimes used my SF Bassman head for guitar and a SF Showman head or Twin Reverb to drive my bass cabinet because I wanted all the power I could get for bass . The preamp in the bassman seemed a little hotter than the guitar heads. A great bluesy guitar amp was the 22 watt Silvertone 1483 an open-backed bass amp with a 15" Jensen.
More recently I have used my little Acoustic Image Ten2 as a guitar amp for jazz and with a modeler or a dirt pedal and effects for rock. It is a lightweight ss bass combo (800 watt RMS) Not as nice for guitar as my Deluxe Reverb but about 12 lbs lighter. This may not be most guitarist's cup of meat, but it worked for me.

I had a Gallien Kreuger 700RB2 amp head and it was very good but by itself weight aprox. 27lbs. I ended up replacing it in 2012 with a 6lbs Class D amp because of my back. They do make quality stuff. They did not have the MB series combos when I bought mine or would have been considered.

One of my best sounding amps is a 1969 AB165 Bassman Head, powering a 2x12 cab w/ Em Texas Heats. Great for rock, sounds awsome with a tube screamer, great for blues, Nails country... IMO those Eminence THs are the perfect speaker for it. A very bluesy speaker which adds to any rock I play with the amp
Over the years I tried a bunch of mods, the marshall mod, PPMV... etc, nothing but 10k mid pots remain, (*mounted in the back out of sight) The amp just stock is perfect. I run a much-underated Fender FR1000 solid-state reverb unit with it. For typical non-surf music that unit sounds better than any pedal I've tried.

It's a AB165 cuircut and non balance pot IMO its a toss up between the AA864 and the AB165 as to what amp cuircuit sounds the best. The AA864's that I played the guitar channel sounded cleaner... My AB165 the guitar channel IMO is punchier than the AA864 I played, and breaks up quicker (obviously due to using an additional stage of the preamp tube in V2 that the AA864 doesn't)
The Bass channels of both cuircuts sound very close. I love to use the both channels on my AB165 (the base channel has great compression and overdrives quicker than the guitar channel, perfect for rock and blues. I moded the varible ground switch to a 3 way negative feed back switch ( 47k--none i.e 1950's Tweed--820) and the added 10k mid pots (1 dedicated per channel) I can easliy replicate the AA864 or the Tweed Bassman's old school vibe.

Just at practice I have played guitars through bass amps, solid state ones.
Just a bit different sound.

I played my first gig with a borrowed new Tele Deluxe and my brother's Traynor yba1 + 2 15" cabs. I'm glad no evidence exists on tape because my recollection is that it was glorious.

I've been playing guitar thru my old Acoustic 360 bass amp plugged into a single 12" cabinet... So big and clean! I'm digging it. (to be fair it sounds like crap with any of my dirt pedals.) My favorite tube amp (right now) is a Bassman 10, so I guess that counts too.

I have a 74 Bassman 50, or what’s left of it. When I got it it was very bland. I changed it to an AA864/AB 763 and other mods. I made the master a Lamar PPI and have a 4 ohm c12n reissue in a single 12 cabinet. After rebuilding the amp I put in some old Groove Tube tubes in it for testing purposes. I was pretty blown away how great these tubes preformed in this amp. I would say by far it’s one of the best and most versatile recording amps I have.

Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.

Some bass amps are better than others. I haven't tried it yet but I've heard the Workingman 1-12 bass amp is great for acoustic guitar. Of course Bassmans are great for guitar. I have a small but 1-15 Rickenbacker bass amp that sounds great with an electric guitar. I'm sure there are many more combinations that sound good.

When I had an early SF Bassman and an early SF Bassman I actually preferred the Bassman for guitar. A friend modded the amp to make the fixed scooped mid tone stack switchable. The rermoval of the scooped fixed mids markedly increased the volume. It still was more volume than I needed for most guitar gigs
More recently I used an Acoustic Image Ten2 for guitar. It was a very clean Class D amp but took pedals very well. I just had to keep in mind that the only distortion was going to be produced by my pedals.
