I'm pretty anal when it comes to backing files. Multiple drives, cloud, etc. But I just lost years of audio notes for song ideas and a whole bunch of e notes of lyrics when my old Samsung Galaxy S8 died. Those (as well as half a year of photos) were never backed up to the cloud. It's maddening to know they still exist on the failed cellphone and thought it was just a defective display. Took it to a repair shop and they tried 2 different screens and concluded it was the main pcb. They gave me a couple of pamphlets for data recovery services and so far I only got a quote from one, anywhere from $400 to $1900.
I'm taking my lumps on this one. Songs that will never be written🫤

Aw man! That sucks. That reminds me that I need to backup my phone files. I too am good about backing up important stuff on my computers but not so much with my phone.

The thing that PMO is a) I knew this phone was operating on borrowed time, b) I didn't download my notes into a Word format and c) I have a Tascam handheld field recorder that I bought years ago for the express purpose of jotting down melodies, riffs, ideas yet continued to use an app on the phone.
Nobody to blame but myself.

😧
Oh my!
I would hope with those recovery prices that payment is dependent on them actually recovering the files.
I’m always eager to hear your next new piece of work. Hopefully some of it still exists in the annals your mind. 😜

I'm hoping anything worth pursuing is still rattling around in the forefront of my brain.

Sorry to hear that. I try not to use the cloud and drop in solid state hard drives are pretty inexpensive these days. I was surprised to see a 2TB drive was basically a chip on a small board. I use a SanDisk iXpand drive on my iPhone to temporarily store photos and videos when I travel and then transfer them to my computer. I’d imagine there’s something like that for Androids.

Digital can be incredibly precarious! Yep. We become so accustomed to it's conveniences from constant use that it's easy to take for granted and not properly prepare for it's failure. This is especially true when it comes to mobile phones.

Sorry to hear this Larry. That is a lot of money to put out for recovery. I could see it were it something of utmost importance.

Digital can be incredibly precarious! As opposed to tape, where nothing ever went wrong, lol!
