Bad Santa, perhaps the best and most tasteless Christmas film of my lifetime, seems to owe a GIANT debt to an obscure Alice Cooper song from the largely-ignored "Dada" album, recorded during the so-called blackout period when Alice was in the throes of alcohol and crack cocaine addiction.
The song, from 1983 or so, details a sad mall Santa in Atlanta who ends up pressured to do more than ..deliver gifts to children and hear requests for presents.
"I got a job in Atlanta in a mall playing Santa
Not because of any talent but because I was the
only one the suit would fit
Everybody shopping, little sticky kids were hopping
on my lap with their fingers in my beard,"
For anybody who's seen "Bad Santa", the parallels will pop up almost immediately.
It certainly deserves a "film inspired by Alice" line in the credits.
