That guy who co-founded Paypal ... you know ... Peter Thiel the (now) billionaire, is pouring money into an idea for athletic competition that, when you think about it, was probably inevitable. Take the model for the Olympics as we know it, with stringent testing to weed out performance enhancing drugs, and turn it on its head. You wind up with the Enhanced Games, ("Olympics of the future") where the participants are on the drugs of their choice, to beef up their efforts. Thiel explains that his model simply uses science to get where the challengers want to be. “Individuals should be able to make choices about your body and no one — whether it’s a sports federation or the government — should be able to tell them what to do about it,” he said. nypost.com/2024/02/01/business/peter-thiel-is-bankrolling-enhanced-games-olympics-on-steroids/

They’ll probably want snipers up in the boxes to keep the roid ragers under control.
That could be an event!

Well it is the end of the roman empire so to speak so why not. How about battles with robots and humans, and wild animals.

I really don't have a problem with it. Most if not all are already juicing, then stop long enough to test negative.

I don't have much interest in sports and really have no horse in this race.
The thing that would concern me most is the role model aspect of this endeavor. It's one thing for adults to chose what they do to themselves. This doesn't need to be a career path for the young. And I believe it would get there in a nanosecond.

Agree Leftee - I don't think we'd want to do something that encourages use of performance enhancing drugs. That just seems like a really bad example to set and a dangerous path to embark upon.

You can see why some parents work hard to isolate their kids from the world.

You can see why some parents work hard to isolate their kids from the world. Yeah, I've never been a fan of that approach. Sooner or later they have to deal with it....better to use stuff like that as a teaching moment instead of pretending it doesn't exist. Giving them the "tools" to make good decisions is a better long-term approach than trying to protect them from temptation.

I agree. It’s a fine line between protecting and teaching.

I remember Lyle Alzado who died of cancer in 1992 who claimed and spoke out about how he felt that steroids were what was responsiblle for his cancer an tumors on the brain etc.

Watch clips of Lyle play and you can see the roid rage. Yeah, but at what cost and is it really fair to others who are just playing using their own God given talents? I know you know this too Eric and was just pointing out for others.

It kinda seems to be inline with so many other things that make me go "hmmmm?" these days. On the surface I think "who cares, if it's out in the open". OTOH, inspiring kids to juice...not cool.

Shouldn't give them to kids, but like any drug some take them anyway.
As far as adults, you know the risks. Only you can determine if it is worth it or not.
Cat is out of the bag, everytime they find and ban a substance someone develops another.
