Yesterday I got an email from Woodcraft about their sale on knife/cutlery kits. I’ve been dabbling in this - rescaling some old kitchen knives around here.
Well, I tried to pay for my order through PP.
Nope!
Their Acceptable Use policy states that using PP to purchase “certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.” is verboten.
Now, to my knowledge, nothing I ordered is regulated.
Whatever 🙄

I mean… I suppose I could stabby/hack someone. Theoretically.

I choose PayPal for a variety of purchases because of convenience. See the PayPal button, click, auto recognition without any extraneous steps, bam, done.
But I will no longer use any service that sets up such kinds of conditions for the purchase of legal product.

I ordered my stuff today - not through the PP.
I’ll keep using PP. I suppose this wasn’t all that surprising. Sad, but not surprising.

In the UK you can’t buy knives online. It’s age related, I think.
My daughter requested some kitchen knives as part of her Christmas present and I had to go out to a shop and buy them. No internet purchases permitted.
How did the salesperson who sold them to me know that I wasn’t an old, stabby geezer?

Right?!?!
I all fairness, my order was quite pointy/stabby/hacky.

I wonder one could buy a chainsaw with PP.

Yes, because that only happens in movies.

If they heard me play guitar they’d put a stop to those purchases.

CBD products are the same — have to directly use the credit card: no PayPal.

Just don't go running around the house stabbing fictitious people screeching "ee-ee-ee!" or we'll have to take your cutlery away, young man.

But seriously. I’m digging this new-to-me hobby. Most of these things I’ve bought to give as gifts once they’re complete.

Perhaps someone can explain to me why free payment methods such as Zelle, etc... haven't put PP out of business. And, Zelle goes straight to your bank account. You don't provide your account info to the person sending or receiving money. As long as your bank has Zelle, or similar (almost all do), you're good to go.

PP also owns a ton of "competitors" and the like.

Can you buy scissors online? Even if you check the box that says, I will not run with this item?

I Pulled the Pin on PayPal (Spoken like Doug Neidermeyer)
I mean, they're just an unnecessary party between a buyer and a seller, at least for me. Set up conditions on how you handle my money and who you deal with and I'm out.

Credit card, either entered on purchase or on file with repeat businesses. I know it's probably more complicated for etailers.
