But obviously pre-recorded. It was good to see the spotlight on HER for a bit. I think her singing was live, but unfortunately didn't cut through the mix. And wouldn't you know, Fender just released a new HER red signature Strat, just like the one she mimed at the Super Bowl. Whatever it takes to get kids interested in playing the guitar, I guess. My daughter (29) and friend (late 30s) knew all the Usher tunes. I only recognized the one that starts off with the minor key synth riff, which reminds me of Herbie HanChicken’s "Rockit". I liked the Usher set - he's obviously a great performer. Nice roller skating bit and I loved the marching band on the field.
OK I had to edit that Herbie. What the Hey! Spellcheck fail.

Weird! I tried and tried to edit Herbie HanChicken and the algorithm keeps inserting Chicken in the apparent offending place.

I usually use the halftime to get more food, drinks, use the bathroom, etc. I'm pretty sure I've never seen a SB halftime show that I liked. When my family was talking about who was in it this year, I said "Who's Usher?".
Even when it's a band that I like, or don't hate, or at least know about, the show is usually over produced crap.
That, of course, is just my opinion.

Hometown boy Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers set the bar mighty high years ago, haven't seen anything of real substance since.

Ya gotta wonder how hard they tried to get Taylor Swift to do the .5 time show.

Ya gotta wonder how hard they tried to get Taylor Swift to do the .5 time show. I am sure she didn’t want to miss one second of the game Larry

I listened to the Super Bowl, and the halftime show. I didn’t recognise any of Usher’s songs but I did hear some good guitar soloing. I fell asleep during the second half, but woke up in time for overtime. 4:00 am here in the UK.

I also read a great article by a guy who was responsible for staging the halftime show for several years, and he reckons they have 6-7 minutes to set the stage up, including all amps, mics, cabling etc. That’s astonishing.
He also said that it’s usual for the entire performance to be recorded the previous night, but if any performer want to sing or play live, they can usually accommodate it, but there is always the failsafe option of switching to the recorded version if anything goes wrong.

Of course, opinions are like, well…, but IMNSHO, there hasn’t been a decent half time show since Janet Jackson. 😀😀😀
