I mentioned in another thread that I was running errands yesterday and getting projects on the move, one of them decades in waiting.
Most of them I have been holding off on due to other priorities with money. Not that the cost of any of them would change our lifestyle, it's just one of those inner conscience things. Hard to bring myself to spend money on things that (many of which) do not matter much in the big scheme of life.
With my recent Social Security retirement benefit sign-up, we have extra cash coming into the household. First item of business is pay off Queenie's new Honda. That will be accomplished next month. I'll take the next check (April) to cover all of the projects I've been holding off on.
We sold the 54 ford F100 to our brother-in-law (mentioned in another thread a while back) which will make room for the new Honda inside the garage. With that I have to get the garage door opening automatically. With just the classics in the garage for the past 20 years or so I have never replaced the old dead Craftsman opener ... it just didn't matter that much. Now it is a priority. We purchased it yesterday ... Now I just need to get out there and install it.
I have a couple of drum thrones I purchased over the past few years. I made new platforms for them and purchased goat skin leather to cover them with. I've let them sit for a long time because I didn't want to spend the $$$ to take them to the upholstery shop and get the job completed. I dropped those off yesterday.
A few months ago, my chainsaw went down. I normally just use it to trim and shape our big Canary Island Date Palm in the front yard. I used it to do some cutting on a few Italian cypress trees and it would barely cut. I assumed I needed a new chain, bought that and found it did not want to go on the bar. Decided maybe I had burned the bar and overheated it trying to cut with a dull chain. I also rationalized that maybe it was due for a professional tune-up and good going over anyway. I dropped it off at the shop yesterday.
My television in the garage went whacky on me. It's a Sharp brand and it started going into some crazy fault mode and needed to be reset every time I turned it on ... sadly sometimes it didn't cooperate with the reset attempts. I purchased a new TV set yesterday and got it mounted on the wall and working. I listen to a lot of talk radio, but other times I will go tinker in the garage and it's nice to have the ball game or reruns of Gunsmoke or whatever running in the background while I tinker.
My 35-year-old table saw went out on me as I finished up a project recently. Fortunately, it allowed completion of the project before it died. Hard to time that one any better. It was primarily the bearing in the blade shaft that froze up. It had been a bit noisier than usual for a while, so it wasn't too surprising. Once I had the belt off the motor, I ran it and decided it too was making more noise than I liked. Hey, it's 35 years old. I bought new bearings on the internet for the blade shaft, they were cheap. I took the motor into the shop yesterday to get it a good going over. I'm guessing it too needs bearing at the very least.
Once I get the chain saw back, I can make more progress on that cypress tree project I mentioned.
Oh, and the swamp cooler in the garage needs some help before summer as well.
OK ... I'll quit the whining now.
But it does feel good to finally move forward on the stuff with no sense of hesitation.
