did not want to hijack the pancake thread but reading the responses no one mentioned at what point do they do they put it on. I cut my pancakes or waffles before I put on the maple syrup. I put butter on before cutting them. How about you?

I butter them while they are still on the griddle just before plating them. The pure maple syrup, that we purchase in Vermont by the half-gallon during our annual pilgrimage to Stowe, is added after they are cut into nice bite-size pieces. Yum!

Instead of pancakes, I roll up chunks of butter in high fiber soft tortillas and zap them in the microwave for a minute. They then get smothered in sugar free syrup. It's like a pancake burrito, but it does remind me of the good old days with the real thing.

I butter them (or sometimes peanut butter), then pour pure maple syrup on them, then cut and eat a bite at a time, dragging each bite through the puddle of syrup that ran off the pancake. (Note the singular "pancake"....I don't eat them in stacks and will unstack them if served that way at a diner.

i haven't eaten pancakes or waffles in decades... but i remember pouring melted butter over them and allowing that to soak a bit then hitting them with the hot maple syrup. pancakes were among the foods that i never seemed to fill up on. i don't know how many i could eat, i always got embarrassed and stopped.
others on that list are popcorn, hotdogs, ice cream, peanut butter, cheese, and corn chips. i just don't get filled up.

My wife used to buy the huge tub of popcorn at the theater and go early enough that we could finish it before the movie started. Why? Because they offered free refills and we'd eat most of a second tub during the movie. Sadly, I cannot eat popcorn any more.

Rickyguitar and 6l6 have the right answer. But if there isn't enough syrup on a piece that has been cut, just dip it in the runoff syrup on the plate.
