The wife likes to watch those "true crime" type TV shows: the documentary ones like "Cops" and "48-Hours". At first, I kinda complained about it: "we already know that a certain percentage of the population are drug addicts, criminals and sociopaths...why wallow in it? Don't you find that depressing?"
"No, it feels good to see the detectives catch them in the end."
So I relented a bit, conceding her point.
But now, she's been watching another one called "Cold Justice". Seems like most episodes end with the detectives having insufficient evidence to take the case to the D.A.. I've put my foot down on that one: "c'mon...now, you have to admit it: that IS depressing when the perps 'get away with it' episode after episode. Let's agree to scratch that one off our list".
Anyone else's significant other attracted to these shows?

My wife binges on them occasionally. I am really not a TV guy but these for sure.

We’re into Brit murder mysteries.
My wife know how to induce a heart attack and make that undicoverable.

My wife know how to induce a heart attack and make that undicoverable. Yeah, every time the murder on the show involves a woman poisoning her husband's food, I look over at her, squint my eyes, slowly nod my head and say, "uh- huh..."

My 84 year old mom constantly watches the true crime shows. All of them. She now has enough knowledge to either be a world class detective or... a serial killer.

I know a lot of women who love macabre shows. I don't get it.

My wife likes the crime shows too. She can watch back to back to back Law & Order episodes all day long. She like NCIS, CSI, Major Crimes, etc.
I can watch them, but they aren't my favorite. Some have some pretty disturbing content IMO. In general, I like my entertainment to be upbeat, funny, entertaining without featuring what's ugly about our world.
The stuff I can't stand is 20/20 and....can't remember the name of the other one. They are ridiculous at dragging out a story. They take 40 mins of content, drag it out into a 2 hour show that repeats the B roll content over and over. Then at the end you don't know who did it or you know but they weren't convicted or something. Really annoying and unsatisfying. If I'm gonna watch a show about crime, I want the bad guys getting their dose of karma.
Which brings me to the third kind of crime show....the vigilante shows. I kinda like them because the bad guys get what they deserve. I have watched The Equalizer movies several times. They're a bit more gory than I generally wanna see, however. Shrug...bad guys deserve bad outcomes and I like seeing them get it. That might be a side effect of being the smallest kid in a high school of 2,000 kids and getting bullied mercilessly. When I graduated I was still smaller than most of the freshman and that's not a fun way to go through high school.

I'll top all you guys with being a captive audience to the wife's TV fare. She (we) just concluded watching all 250 episodes of the Canadian TV series "Heartland". Set in Alberta, it follows the teen soap opera of a ranching family. Imagine Yellowstone on the Hallmark channel. It started with "ooh, pretty horses." 🤪

"Dateline", hosted by that smarmy ghoul Keith Morrison is the absolute worst one. *Keith knits his eyebrows sympathetically and asks* "So this meth addict chopped up your infant son with a machete and fed him to his pet wolverines?" *bares down on eyebrows, shakes head and squints in feigned disbelief* "How'd that make you feel?"
