So....I've eyeballed some of the special edition Gibsons at Wildwood for ages. Almost pulled the trigger on one about 6 months ago but figured my wife (no pics) would be cranky about it (and I don't really need another guitar).
Last weekend we were out with another couple and the subject of how much it costs for her to have her hair done came up (she brought it up, not me). I joked that I should probably be able to get another guitar then and her response was "Go ahead, you just need to get rid of one for everyone you get". Well, I have a crappy Yamaha electric that I got for about $100 a long time ago....I'd happily give that away to get the Gibby I want.
But....I don't need it. It's like $4k....I don't need it. But....
Talk me out of this please.

The Wildwood stuff is top shelf if you're looking at a Gibby.
I'm not a traditionalist in the Gibson realm (I love the pre-Modern High Performance, and the new Moderns a TON though).
Oh, and call them. They do discounts over the phone but you pay list if you hit "buy now" like a foo!

You’ve come to the wrong place. Besides, “she who must be obeyed”, as Rumpole of the Bailey called his wife, hath given you the answer. It is the natural progression of continual guitar enjoyment. Get rid of two lesser guitars, thinning the herd by one, buy the guitar you’ve always wanted, and play that sucker!

You're asking the wrong people.
Don't forget! Pics or it never happened.

I was hot after a Dove several months back. Didn't do it. Now I'm sad. There, did that help?

Do you go to Dunkin' Donuts to ask them to talk you into going on a diet?

Go ahead and buy yourself a Gibson. You deserve a Gibson as much as anyone. Ask yourself, why should other mopes have a Gibson and not you? You’re every bit human they are, probably more! Go ahead, buy yourself the Gibson of your dreams today.
You deserve it!

Some day you will be dust, the memories of you mere charges on the synapses of those around you, and eventually those people will, too, be dust. The guitar will go on to someone else, then maybe someone after that, but it will also be dust.
I don't know if that is supposed to talk you in or out of buying it.

I don't think that's something we're supposed to do around here.
Enjoy!!

The ONLY reason to EVER not buy a guitar would be because you need the money to feed your starving children. I could live under a bridge if I had a guitar to play. If you're looking to me to talk you out of buying a guitar you are doomed.

I’ll give it a go.
You should not buy the guitar because… well… you shouldn’t.
Wow! That felt weird. How’d I do?

You should not buy a new guitar if the walls in your music room have no more space to hang one.
OK, I failed that one.

You should buy it because you can sell it if you dont like it, or if you ever need the money.

When do you take delivery? You get three days from that date to post pictures or we shave one of your eyebrows.
At least that’s what happened to me.

Slacker...I'm in agreement with the ones who have said, talking you out of a guitar is against the rules. We ARE NOT here to support you in deciding against buying a guitar...just the opposite. Just think how much fun you will have. No guilt because your wife knows. I say, if you've got the dough,,,go for it.
You're welcome for my help!

I think in order to get a good answer to this, you should go ahead and buy it. Then, send it around to all the good folks here for their inspection (you know, it would offer a better perspective ). That's why they have such a long return policy you know and after all is said and done, you would have a proper answer without being burdened with buyer's remorse. Not to mention, 'happy wife, happy life!'

I would never pay $4,000 for a guitar. There are too many other options for a LOT less money. Epiphone, Eastman, and many others are making great guitars these days. In addition, Gibson has never been the same since their Kalamazoo days.
I'd rather buy a good used guitar as a platform and mod it to desired specs. It's much more personal.
How am I doing? ;o)
