I had to snake out the bathroom sink drain. Removed the drain stopper, but as I loosened the thumb screw holding the snake in its holder the screw dropped down the drain. Dang. Went to the hardware store and got this product of the merger of a Chinese antenna factory and a pen factory: www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/hand-tools/pickup-tools/2114460Worked as advertised. I just don't get how I never needed it before. As we're always doing a lot of work here I already had a push magnet on wheels to sweep for nails in the driveway and around the barn.

Those kind of tools are "must have" if you work on cars. I have a couple of flexi ones: one with a retractable magnet tip and another with a retractable "claw".

I love the Telescoping magnet until I get the frustrating brass or aluminum screw. The retractable claw has gotten me out of a lot of jams at work before I retired. I hadn’t seen the retractable magnet tip before.

I've had both of those for decades. Invaluable when you need them.

I keep one at my workbench. Great for dropped items, also for fishing out that lock washer as you're trying to mount a jack in an archtop.
I also have some high power neodymiums for crack repairs. Not a lot of force, but often you just need to flush up a surface and they work swimmingly, especially in places where clamps don't make much sense. Sometimes they work for loose braces, but not often. Usually just a finger brace.
If you want to go down a rabbit hole, see the K&J Magnetics website and imagine all the goofy stuff you could do.

I've had a telescoping magnet for several years, but had not seen the flexible ones. Now I want them too.
