So, all this news about the (shall go unnamed) issue got me thinking about the purchase of a new guitar. Been looking on line at Martin D18. Also a nearby shop has some NOS Larrivee guitars. Anyone else contemplating getting another guitar before the end of the world ?? Also any of you folks have experience with Larrivee guitars. Of course I'll have to convince the wife that the world is coming to an end so I should buy at least one more guitar. Seriously though I will try to get to the shop totry out some of the Larivees.

See the thread here on Larrivees. I've owned at least a dozen (which includes 3-4 of their recent electrics).
Having played a bunch of them over the years, my preferences run to the 05 Series and up, just because I like the gloss finish better, and they do tend to get the nicer sets of woods. But tonewise, there may not be a lot of difference between the 03 Series or 40 Series (satin finish) and the 05/09/10 Series (gloss finish).
Larrivee's have a balanced tone. Clear notes from bass through mids through trebles. Not the kind of deep thump bass of a Martin dread (unless you get the 40 Series, which have Martin style bracing under the hood). Depends what you like.
Go play some and see what you think.
Another thing: Larrivees have TERRIBLE resale value. That means you can find a lot of very nice used 05 (Sitka/Mahogany) and 09 (Sitka/Indian Rosewood) Series guitars out there for around or under $1,500, which is a real steal for the quality of tone, woods and build that you'll get. And it's another reason to bypass a new 03 Series guitar for those prices and find a good used one from the higher Series.

P.S. Which shop close to you has a good selection of Larrivees?

Its a small shop called "Golden Age Guitars". Google them. the shop owner used to work for Mandolin Brothers. Its a nice small shop with several rooms and a Mandolin Brothers Vibe. Mostly used Guitars, The Larrivees are NOS. They also carry Bourgeois Guitars. They are in Westfield NJ. If your near, worth a visit.

I love my D18 . Lefty , if you are in Minnesota there are a couple of Larrivee dealers in the Bloomington/ St Paul area. If you are close enough to LaCrosse, Daves is always worth a trip. They have a ton of acoustics .

I was at Dave's about two weeks ago - yeah - great shop and an incredible selection of both electrics and acoustics - and he keeps a decent selection of lefties in stock. When I was there last week he had at least half a dozen lefty Rickenbacker's - half of those were electric 12-strings - very cool! Nice selection of lefty Martin's and Gibson's as well (around a dozen between the two brands).
