I watched the episode of The Marvelous Ms. Maisel in which she is on tour with a faux 60s pop singer and is offered a bit of advice from the band's bass player, Carol Keen. She appeared complete with tousled blonde hair and cats eye glasses. The "cameo" wasnt lost on me and I immediately educated my wife about who Carol Kaye is. Wouldn't you know, this article appeared on my Google feed this morning (prompted by my search history no doubt). Apparently Ms. Kay is not happy about being depicted in the story line, calling it slanderous. nypost.com/2020/01/02/bass-legend-carol-kaye-blasts-mrs-maisel-homage-as-slander/

Apparently Ms. Kaye is not shy about making her opinions known. I personally enjoyed that character ( or caricature? ) in The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, but was very disappointed in the lack of continuity by having her a left handed player in one episode and a right handed one in another. Very bad form in my opinion. Sorry if that is regarded as some kind of spoiler.

I noticed the left hand right hand thing as well, just bad editing or what.

I would guess that one might not want to piss her off, especially cut her off in say the Ralph's or take the last Oreo. She seems to be a tough cookie who as a pathfinder for women understandably wants to protect her legacy. I get her perspective of her brand her say, but unfortunately the reference is probably lost on most of the audience.

The night I watched that episode I thought the same thing. Carol is tough and opinionated for sure but she is also approchable. She answers her emails, though you may not like what she says, she has her opinions and they should be considered, She’s a rock.

Oh wow, I caught the left handed Carol Keen, didn't catch the switcheroo. I would have assumed the writers had her blessings before scripting such an apparent character. I enjoyed the role in an otherwise disjointed and overly frantic season.

Thanx for the spoiler, Riff Twang! I havent gotten that far in the series. But it's a minor detail, not like when Shy gets killed in episode 5 or anything...

She's such an institution. I think it was disrespectful to not even ask how she felt about the idea before they proceeded, especially since she already felt that she had been misrepresented in the "Wrecking Crew" documentary.

But the best part is when Lilly Tomlin comes to dinner and brings a young Bill Cosby, and some how all the women get sleepy.

Well OK then, on the subject of Lenny Bruce, that sure was a highly sanitised version of the man, the legend, the junky that he was.

I have not seen the show, but Ms. Kaye has made a blunder that many people fall victim to: she came up voice to 'set the record straight' when the record already is straight; she admitted that herself when she stated she's "not a cartoon."
I'm sure anyone watching the show will know it's a comedy, not a documentary. All she's done is create buzz about the show and that will only increase viewership and revenue for Amazon Prime.
Ms. Kaye as an artist certainly needs no media coverage because she's retired. She is a pretty smart cookie and I have a truckload of respect for her. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised at all if her statement wasn't actually a calculated move by the marketing department at Amazon Prime to purposefully generate media buzz.
If you think Carol is opinionated, check out guitarist Jimmy Bruno's channel on Youtube. Sometimes I don't know whether to be appreciative or offended!

Yes, we shouldn't forget that it is merely a light entertainment show, and should be accepted as such. Whether Ms. Kaye is flattered or not is rather inconsequential.
