Needs to be a very firm handle on this thing before bands playing to a packed house can be a goal again. In NY City, if there is no second wave I think late fall/early winter. If we do get a second wave, that would delay things until well into 2021. Hoping by then testing will be commonplace and there will be big gains in treatment. Vaccine in 1-2 years.

So a few restraurants that usually have live music (duo/trios) opened up in Atlanta and so far, so good.

I’m anticipating that our weekly Thursday evening jam session will come roaring back as my friends will need a place to come out and blow off some steam!

We had about 4-5 gigs per month booked for the rest of the year. As it stands, we have no idea when lockdown is going to be lifted, or whether bookings for later in the year will be honoured.
On one hand, I can see there being a desperate rush to get back to the bars once lockdown is lifted out of sheer joy/ relief. On the other hand there is no guarantee that all of the bars that are currently closed will ever re-open, or whether they will still have bands on.
Add to that the fact that, like someone said above, the average age of the audience at our gigs is probably 60+ and I'm not sure whether we'll ever get back to pre-pandemic gig levels.
I believe we've already been in touch with our regular venues to offer to play at a one-off reduced fee as a goodwill gesture. I'm not sure how well that will go down.
Best of luck everyone.

That lack of confidence may last far beyond the restrictions, and that could be spell the end for many boomer musicians.

as much as our band is dying to get back to gigging for a number of reasons including the fact that some of us rely on it for income, the more I think about it w/the predictions of the virus returning in the fall/winter I'm leaning towards scrapping the whole year and hoping we're safe next spring. ouch, it hurt to type that.....

I meant to hit the fall but accidentally hit Next Winter You can change it. Just click on the box you originally selected, it will deselect, then pick the box you want.

It went well. The owner was very happy to see so many people socially distanced and having a good time. Man, it really felt good to play and see people dancing and having a good time again.

A few places in this area that have outdoor seating and outdoor stages are now open and running, and performers are doing their thing.

I've played 3 gigs since May 23rd (all acoustic duo, outdoors and plenty o' space) and have 10 more on the books for the year - all acoustic duo or trio with only one being a "band" gig, which is also outdoor (private party at a lake house). I don't see many indoor gigs thriving this year... or possibly next year either.

I haven't gigged in 7 years with the exception of a couple of happy sit ins with my brother in law's band. I'm getting a very discouraged vibe from several of my active musician friends, even overtures that maybe its time to call it quits. I was happily writing and recording in my own little bubble, but inspiration has dwindled as well as a "whats the point?" frame of mind. I've pulled the pin on Facebook since no one can remember how they acted before social media, so I have no place really to share my music, even if I was so inspired. Honestly, between the pandemic, my age and a growing bleakness to the human condition I'm starting to wonder myself if its time to sell crap off and buy some fishing gear.

In Ohio, the leadership changes its mind weekly if not daily. That's why there have been numerous lawsuits.

In Georgia we have many clubs now having weekend only "live" music with social distancing and venue cannot exceed more than 50% of total space. The outdoor gigs are opening up again too with restrictions.

At the moment, Florida COVID cases are surging now that the restrictions have been loosened. I've seen pics of folks at the music venues I go to listen or play, and there are NO masks and people are clustering like there's no problem. I had a regular gig going before the epidemic and they have not started live music again. I'm very glad of that. I would hate to refuse a gig for fear of not getting called back again, but till this thing is under control, I'd have to pass.

We had a gig again Saturday. It was an outdoor venue with a few people dancing. They only allowed up to 50% capacity. I think the days of full dance floors, selfies with friends, fun in the clubs with friends are gone for a long time.
