I'm shopping new amps and the Blackstar HT40 keeps coming up. It does american/british tones and goes from clean to mean. User feedback appears to be all over the place and the regular youtube videos show nothing but praise as usual. I'd like to hear some real world feedback if any. I'm trying to find an amp that can do hard rock/metal.

i know two folks in pop/punkish bands who have ht20s, and they both like them. easily loud enough to hang with a band. one guy plays pretty clean, and the other gets his dirt from pedals. so ... not much help for you other than to say two more people like blackstar.

I’ve got one of their little practice amps and I like it a lot. That’s all I know about them.

Got an HT-1. Not the same class as an HT-40. This is a one watt tube/SS hybrid with a 12AX7A in the preamp and a 12AT7 output. Not like a MicroCube, but a good little amp that takes pedals well.

I've been looking at their "Anniversary" 10 watt valve range for a small gigging amp. The guy who runs (ran ) the local open mic has an Artist 30, which I've played lots of times and is excellent. I played an Artisan 30 a few years ago and they are pro quality, but cost a fortune and weigh an absolute ton. I've no experience with the HT range, apart from playing through a 100w head at a practice room. I couldn't get along with it, but that was probably due to my unfamiliarity with it.

I keep looking at the HT because it seems pretty versatile. I'm looking at the Orange Rocker 32 as well, but it doesn't seem to go to enough high gain.

The HT20 Mark II is on my list of Heads to consider. Also the Fender Super Champ X2 Head. I don't need mega-wattage.
