I thinned the herd over the last six or seven years, and as I’ve always been primarily an electric player, I now find myself without an acoustic guitar.
I’m thinking of getting a cheaper acoustic to plunk around on. I’m now solely an “at home” player, so I don’t need a high quality guitar or one with a big voice.
In looking online at various options, Epiphone has caught my eye. The Hummingbird model particularly interests me.
Anyone have an opinion on Epiphone acoustics in general, or the Hummingbird in particular?

I've got an early 2000's (?) Korean EJ200 and it's one of the best sounding, best looking, well made, easiest playing acoustics I've got. As good as some costing 4-5 times as much IMHO.
I've not played an Epi Hummingbird, but I think they look great, and they get good reviews. A guy I know has a '70's Hummingbird, and if they sound half as good as that I'd be happy.

Haven't played the Hummingbird either but have been surprised by a few Epis in the past. Couldn't tell ya what they were but probably mid 2000s era. I've also picked up several at stores that had nothing to offer.
$369 for the Pro model...solid top, doesn't specify solid mahogany for the back/sides but it does have the back-joint reinforcement like an all-wood guitar does. I would take a shot at ordering one (if a good return policy were involved) were I in the market.

I would take a shot at ordering one (if a good return policy were involved) were I in the market. That would be Sweetwater for sure. Thanks for the review of the Epi J-200. Sounds great if the new ones are that good. BTW: if you do ever order from them, throw the candy my way ha!

Thanks for the input, guys.
I’ve ordered from Sweetwater previously, and if I take the plunge, they’ll get my business. Mmmmmm, case candy!

No hummingbirds, but I do have these two in the house as I type. The J200 12 string is mine and it is a very nice sounding and playing guitar. I've had it for quite a while now. With this one in the house I have absolutely no interest in looking at anything else ... this one suites me fine. The J200 6 string is an *Artist* version and it is my Son's. I have played it a bit and it seems to be a very nice guitar. I don't look to play his Epi J200 since I have my own Gibson J200 Artist ... the one to the left there. I have an Epiphone EJ-300S... really a nice acoustic guitar... I also have a Gibson J-50, but I find that I play the Epi more often. I looked at some Gibson jumbo guitars today, but at my age and health...I don't need to put that much $$$ into a guitar... Last time I saw Todd Snyder play, he was using Epiphones...
I would love to find one of those J-200 12-strings...

The more recent Chinese Epiphone acoustics can be some good-sounding guitars. I had an early Epiphone Artist dreadnaught that was decent sounding as well.

I would love to find one of those J-200 12-strings... I pretty much bought the one pictured by accident ... on eBay. I saw it and thought it was interesting. I really did not have the money to spend so I put in a bid that I really thought would not win. Queenie and I were going someplace out of town and just before we left someone out-bid me. I thought OK, saved by the bid. I really did not mind losing the chance. We got home to find that the higher bidder had retracted his bid and I was once again the high bidder. As I recall the circumstance now dictated that I was not REQUIRED to take the deal. Well, I took the deal and there it is.
