There's some talk about it over on the UMGF (Martin Forum). I think Martin is in good shape - and CFM IV must think so as well, or he probably wouldn't be stepping into a different role (he'll still be around keeping a "family eye" on things).
My recent experiences with Martin, and what I've seen in the shops, tells me that Martin is in a very good place right now. Their employees are doing great work and seem dedicated to the company's vision...that's a MAJOR asset...
...and with COVID stopping production for a few months, the market is hungry for Martin guitars. Go to various websites and there's lots of stuff sold, on back order, ETA dates, etc. That's good for a company (for awhile, at least).
I suspect Chris will be close by until his daughter, Claire, is old enough to take an active role in the company, assuming she wants to do that. In my eyes, it's all good for now.
