Been looking at these for a few months now, ever since I played a black one (non "Streetmaster") at Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrosse, WI - that guitar had thump, volume and character - all for a great price! So ... since my custom order Martin won't be done any time soon (9-12 months possibly), I have some time to pay for that, and this one is now headed my way; according to initial FedEx info it will arrive next Wednesday! Here's a link to Maury's Music; click on the photos link for more up close photos (I don't know if these are of my guitar, or if they've changed the pics already - that would be really quick if they did!). I got it for less than the price listed there - a lot less!

Received the DSS-15M StreetMaster today.
While this is my first hand, newbie review, I'll say I am very pleased with this guitar. Overall, Martin's materials and workmanship on this thing are nothing less than stellar. Once again, the 15 Series does not disappoint.
I've had enough new (and new to me) instruments to know that first impressions can be "glowing" - but my experience has also been that within a few minutes I'll know if there's something about an instrument that falls short. I don't sense anything that falls short on this guitar.
The only things I will change will be to try different (Light and Medium Light and LJ Retro) strings on it, and maybe lower the saddle a little, but I won't know until I get the Medium strings off. One other thing I might change is the tuners; they're a little stiff. I have a set of Martin labeled chrome-knob tuners that would probably function much better, but they would definitely change the aesthetic of the guitar.
The sound is big, round and full in the bass. It is a little more "dispersed" on the individual notes than my J-18; the notes on the J are very focused and direct...not sure how else to describe what I'm hearing tonally. I think the DSS will become more focused as it plays in/breaks in. (Checked the bracing: it has two scalloped braces across the lower bout like a Standard Series.)
In the pics, you can see that Martin even did the under arm "wear" correctly for a lefty guitar; the wear looks fine in person, when playing I don't really notice it, other than the satin finish feels very good.
The gig bag is fine - bonus is I have cases that will fit this guitar, and the gig bag fits my J-18, so win win.
Final verdict: I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger on this one - it sounds really good now; looking forward to hearing how it opens up over time.

Great!
I always liked the D-15 and almost pulled the trigger on a used D-15M at a great price. The only reason why I didn't was the relatively full neck contour on that particular guitar. Not the best for a thumb-wrapping player with smaller hands.
Congrats!
