www.boss.info/us/products/rc-20xl/I've noticed the various posts and wondered about these (looping pedals) for a while. This one looks pretty *exotic* to me, I'm sure there are more simplistic versions of loop pedals out there. I'm seeing one of these BOSS RC-20 pedals available in nearly new condition on Craigslist and less than a mile from my house and at about half price (compared to new). I've never used a loop pedal, so it would be something new to me. From what I understand about them it could be a fun little tool to have around. Might I get some input on loop pedals in general? How you use it to help you out? Maybe even info on this particular one, if anyone has one or has used one. Input appreciated.

Let me add this: I am viewing this as a practice and learning tool ... not so much as an effects pedal, per-say. That's why I post here as opposed to the guitars and effects forum

Ah! I bought that exact pedal about 5 years ago, and just sold it on Reverb about 2 weeks ago. I found it to be bewilderingly difficult to use, had a million more functions than I would use in 10 lifetimes, and I just didn't want to spend the time learning the myriad of knobs, lights, pedals, etc. And there were pretty much zero instructions on how it all worked.
That aside, the few times I used it, the basic loop function idea is fun as hell. Its a great change of pace when practicing or playing alone, and lets you play along with whatever parts you care to put down. I'm now looking for a real simple looper, and its a great tool to have. Go try a bunch out and see what works for you.

Yes. You can do a simple loop with a single toe tap to start recording, one tap to stop recording - its the only function I ever used. I think loopers have come a long way since this model, there may be better options out there, YMMV.

I have had a Digitech Jamman for over a decade and think it's a great thing to have around. Past discussions on the FDP were dominated by the same opinion as mikeyd and yes, that pedal can do much more than you'll probably need but what the more complicated ones generally have over the simpler ones is the ability to store loops. I like my Jamman as it uses a memory card so I can store lots of stuff. I have over sixty loops stored on mine. I don't know what the one you're looking at is going for but the Digitech Jamman Solo is $150, has a memory card and is much smaller. The Boss RC-3 is comparable but more expensive. I wouldn't want one that didn't have the ability to store loops. If that's not important to you then there are lots of cheaper options available.

I am going with a Boss RC-1 for my next one. About $75 on Reverb, one pedal, one knob, just a few functions, and up to 12 minutes of recording time. More than enough!

I've had a Boomerang for years. Exactly simple enough for me. Jim

I've not taken the jump on this thing, but he has lowered the price to $125.00 OBO.
I might feel tempted to offer him $100.00 and see what that does for him.
Obviously after the input here the thing holding me back is that it's over engineered.
